Justseeds
Justseeds Artists' Cooperative is a decentralized, worker-owned cooperative of thirty artists throughout North America. Justseeds members primarily produce handmade prints and publications which are distributed through their website and at conferences and events related to social and environmental movements. Members also work individually as graphic designers for and within a broad swath of social and environmental activist causes in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. As a collective body, Justseeds has produced several gallery exhibitions of both print work and collaborative sculptural installation. Meredith Stern
Meredith Stern (sometimes using the pseudonyms "Merry Death" or "Merry Def") is an artist, musician and disc jockey living in Providence, Rhode Island. Biography Stern went to George School for high school. She later graduated Cum Laude from Tulane University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramics. While living in New Orleans, she collaborated with fellow artists Brice White and Icky Apparatus to create Nowe Miasto, a do-it-yourself warehouse space that has since hosted hundreds of bands and workshops. While living in New Orleans, she wrote several zines, including ''Mine: An Anthology of Women's Choices'' and ''Mine: An Anthology of Reproductive Choices'', and published several issues of a personal zine called ''Crude Noise''. Josh MacPhee
Josh MacPhee is an artist, curator, stonemason and activist living in Brooklyn, New York. Career Josh MacPhee's work as a socially-engaged artist and designer focuses on production and distribution of political graphics. Originally from Holliston, Massachusetts, MacPhee was influenced at an early age by the work of Seth Tobocman and Peter Kuper. He attended Oberlin College and studied media and culture while publishing the zine ''Fenceclimber''. After two years at Oberlin, MacPhee moved to Washington, D.C. where he helped create a community space called Beehive and collaborated on founding the D.C. chapter of the Anarchist Black Cross Network as part of MacPhee's broader burgeoning involvement in prison reform. Favianna Rodriguez
Favianna Rodriguez (born September 26, 1978) is an American artist and activist. She has self-identified as queer and Hispanic and Latino Americans, Latina with Afro-Peruvian roots. Rodriguez began as a political poster designer in the 1990s in the struggle for racial justice in Oakland, California. Rodriguez is known for using her art as a tool for activism. Her designs and projects range on a variety of different issues including globalization, immigration, feminism, patriarchy, interdependence, and genetically modified foods. Melanie Cervantes
Melanie Cervantes (born in Harbor City, CA) is a Xicana artist and activist based in the Bay Area. Background Cervantes grew up in a small city in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, CA. Her father was a paper box printer and her family's poverty helped foster her interest in art, out of the necessity of creating their own clothing and Halloween costumes. She picked up color theory while helping out her mother pick out clothes at the swap market and observed her father construct and repurpose junk in their garage. Cervantes now lives in San Francisco, California; here, she can enjoy the company of different community groups in her area. She is a voice for the oppressed. Dylan Miner
Dylan Miner is an American artist and assistant professor at Michigan State University. Art As an artist, Miner has exhibited widely, including the Institute of American Indian Arts, the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, National Museum of Mexican Art, Native American Rights Fund, La Galería de la Raza, Nokomis Center and countless alternative and university galleries, community centers, union halls, and anarchist bookstores. His working-class comics are included in ''Studs Terkel’s Working: A Graphic Adaptation'' (New Press, 2009) and ''Wobblies: A Graphic History of the Industrial Workers of the World''. Critical Resistance
Critical Resistance is a U.S. based organization that works to build a mass movement to dismantle what it calls the prison-industrial complex (PIC). Critical Resistance's national office is in Oakland, California, with three additional chapters in New York City, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon. Critical Resistance has promoted the idea of abolishing the prison system from its first conference in 1998. It considers the prison-industrial complex to be a response to societal issues such as: homelessness, immigration, and gender non-conformity. Interference Archive is a volunteer-run library, gallery, and archive of historical materials related to social and political activism and movements. It is located in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, at 314 7th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215. The mission of the organization is "to explore the relationship between cultural production and social movements." History Interference Archive began as the personal collection of Josh MacPhee and Dara Greenwald, activists who told the ''New York Times'' that they had filled their home with so much "social movement memorabilia ...
