Edward Ray Sloan
Edward Ray Sloan (March 12, 1883 – January 30, 1964) was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives and justice of the Kansas Supreme Court from April 6, 1931, to January 9, 1933. Life and education He was born March 12, 1883, in Seward County, Nebraska, his family then moved to Sheridan County, Kansas in 1886. He lived in a sod house until he was 17 and attended public school in Sheridan County. He obtained his a degree in 1904 from Campbell College School of Law in Holton, Kansas, and Washburn College Law School in 1905. He was admitted to the bar with fifty other students in June 1905, only one of which was a woman. He was married to Miss Julia L. Write at her home in Norton, Kansas January 24, 1906. He was a Methodist and on occasion spoke to church groups on subject such as "Christianity and Law" and "The Trail of Christ". Gordon Wright Sloan (April 9, 1911 – August 23, 2006) was an American attorney and judge. He was the 70th justice of the Oregon Supreme Court in the United States. He previously served on the International Tuna Commission, and later the Kansas native was Oregon’s first senior judge. Early life Gordon Sloan was born to Edward R. Richard Elihu Sloan
Richard Elihu Sloan (June 22, 1857 – December 13, 1933) was an American jurist and politician, who served as Associate Justice of the Arizona Territorial Supreme Court, a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona and as the 17th and final Governor of Arizona Territory. As an Associate Justice he served for 16 years, the longest service of any member of the Arizona Territorial Supreme Court, and wrote over 150 legal opinions. As Governor he oversaw Arizona's transition from territory to statehood. Background Sloan was born on June 22, 1857 in Morning Sun, Preble County, Ohio, to Mary (Caldwell) and Dr. Richard E. Sloan. His family had moved to Ohio from South Carolina owing to their opposition to the secession movement and slavery.
