Harry Carey (actor Born 1878)
Henry DeWitt Carey II (January 16, 1878 – September 21, 1947) was an American actor and one of silent film's earliest superstars, usually cast as a Western hero. One of his best known performances is as the president of the United States Senate in the drama film '' Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'' (1939), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was the father of Harry Carey Jr., who was also a prominent actor. Early life Carey was born in the Bronx, New York, a son of Henry DeWitt Carey (a newspaper source gives the actor's name as "Harry DeWitt Carey II"). a prominent lawyer and judge of the New York Supreme Court, and his wife Ella J. Howard "Duke" Worne (December 14, 1888 – October 13, 1933) was an American film director, director and actor of the silent film, silent era. He directed more than 70 films between 1919 and 1931. He also appeared in 27 films between 1914 and 1928. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died in Los Angeles, California. In 1930, Worne married silent film actress Virginia Brown Faire, to whom he remained married until his death three years later in 1933. Olive Carey (born Olive Fuller Golden; January 31, 1896 – March 13, 1988) was an American film and television actress, and the mother of actor Harry Carey Jr. Life and career Carey was born Olive Fuller Golden in New York City, the daughter of Ada (Maxwell), who was from Surrey, and George Fuller Golden (originally George Michael Fuller), a vaudeville entertainer. In 1912, her father died, "leaving a wife and four children destitute." She had a sister, Ruth Fuller Golden, who also acted in films. Film Carey's screen debut was in ''Sorrowful Jones'' (1913). She next acted in '' Tess of the Storm Country'' (1914). (An obituary indicates that the name of her initial film was '' The Sorrowful Shore''.)
