"Just Can't Last" is the first single from Natalie Merchant's 2001 album ''Motherland''. The single version included more instruments and vocals than the original. The single was released in two packages. The Australian package included Merchant sitting under an apple tree in color. (The picture had been used on ''Motherland''). The regular package included a blue background with Natalie Merchant's name and the single name. Release "Just Can't Last" was released as a radio single in September 2001. The song was also made available via RealAudio streaming on Elektra Records' official artist site. Natalie Anne Merchant (born October 26, 1963) is an American alternative rock singer-songwriter. She joined the band 10,000 Maniacs in 1981 and was lead vocalist and primary lyricist for the group. She remained with the group for their first seven albums and left it to begin her solo career in 1993. She has since released seven studio albums as a solo artist. Early life Natalie Merchant was born October 26, 1963, in Jamestown, New York, the third of four children of Anthony and Anne Merchant. Her paternal grandfather, who played the accordion, mandolin and guitar, immigrated to the United States from Sicily; his surname was "Mercante" before it was Anglicized. Allison Miller (born 1974 or 1975) is an American, New York City-based drummer, composer, and teacher. Early life Miller is descended from a long line of musicians on the maternal side of her family. Her grandmother was a professional organist in Oklahoma, whose sister was a professional singer. Her mother is a classical pianist and choral director. Miller has a cousin who she described as "a very famous opera singer". Miller was raised in the Washington, D.C. area, and began playing drums at the age of 10. She attended West Virginia University.
