''Just Between You and Me'' is the first collaborative studio album by Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton. It was released on January 15, 1968, by RCA Victor. The album was produced by Bob Ferguson. It peaked at number eight on the ''Billboard'' Top Country Albums chart and spawned one single, " The Last Thing on My Mind", which peaked at number seven on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart. Background When Norma Jean announced that she was leaving '' The Porter Wagoner Show'' in August 1967, Wagoner asked Parton to replace her as the "girl singer" on his television series and road show. Parton made her first TV appearance on September 5 and the duo made their first concert appearance on September 14, in Lebanon, Virginia. The crowd greeted Parton with boos and chants for Norma Jean, which led Wagoner to begin singing duets with Parton on the show. Monument Records released Parton's debut album on September 18. "Just Between You and Me" is a song written by Jack Clement, and recorded by American country music artist Charley Pride. It was released in September 1966 as the first single from the album '' Pride of Country Music''. The song was Pride's third single and his first major hit as a recording artist. Background and content In 1966, Charley Pride secured his first recording contract with RCA Victor Records. Pride would record many of his hit singles under the supervision of Jack Clement. With his first two singles, RCA did not include a promotional photograph of Pride's face in anticipation that disc jockeys would fail to play him because of his skin color. The Chordettes were an American female vocal quartet, specializing in traditional pop music. They are best known for their 1950s hit songs " Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop". Career The group organized in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1946.
