Jury Chaščavacki
Jury Jazépavič Chaščavacki, also spelled Yury Khashchavatski ( be, Ю́ры Язэ́павіч Хашчава́цкі; ; russian: Юрий Иосифович Хащеватский; born 18 October 1947 in Odesa, Ukraine) is a Belarusian film director and scenarist, known for his films Kavkazkie plenniki, Bahi Siarpa i Molata, Aranzhavyja Kamizelki, Dazhyts da lubovi and Obyknovennyj prezident. Life In 2002, he was arrested following participation in a protest of the Belarusian government. He spent 10 days in jail. He claimed he spent the time in jail giving lectures to other inmates about documentary film techniques. During the 2020 Belarusian protests he became a member of the Coordination Council of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Kalinovski Square (film)
''Kalinovski Square'' (original title: Плошча, or Plošča) is a 2007 documentary film by Belarusian filmmaker Yury Khashchavatski. The film takes a critical look at the re-election of Alexander Lukashenko in March 2006, featuring especially the protests that occurred after the election was found to be fraudulent. The protests had their centre at October Square in downtown Minsk, which was informally renamed on the occasion for Konstanty Kalinowski. Before its commercial release on DVD on 9 June 2009, the film was distributed under the title ''The Square''. Since the Belarusian authorities already persecuted director Yury Khashchavatski since his first movie ''An ordinary president'' (1996), all production was done underground. The Coordination Council for the Transfer of Power (; ), known often as the Coordination Council, is a Belarusian non-governmental body created by presidential candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to facilitate a democratic transfer of power. The Council, founded during the 2020 Belarusian protests in response to the disputed 2020 Belarusian presidential election, has 64 core members () with a 7-member leadership presidium. DOK Leipzig is a documentary film festival that takes place every year in Leipzig, Germany. It is an international film festival for documentary and animated film founded in 1955 under the name "1st All-German Leipzig Festival of Cultural and Documentary Films" and was the first independent film festival in East Germany. In 1995 a separate competition for animated films was added and in 2004 a film industry program, DOK Industry, was initiated to allow a networking and contact platform for industry professionals.
