Juozas Grušas
Juozas Grušas (November 16, 1901, Žadžiūnai-Kalniškiai, Kovno Governorate – May 21, 1986, Kaunas) was a Lithuanian writer, editor, dramatist and playwright. Biography Grušas' first inspirational teacher was the Lithuanian poet Jovaras, who taught him writing and spurred his interest in literature. In 1920 he enrolled at the Šiauliai Gymnasium, graduating in 1924. From 1924 to 1931 he was a student at the University of Lithuania (1930 renamed to ''Vytautas Magnus University''), in the Theology-philosophy faculty. In 1928 he was elected as chairman of the student organization Šatrija. After graduating in 1930, he began teaching the Lithuanian language. In 1931, together with Balys Sruoga, he co-founded the Lithuanian writers association; from 1937 to 1938 he was chairman of this organization. Petrašiūnai Cemetery ( lt, Petrašiūnų kapinės) is Lithuania's premiere last resting place formally designated for graves of people influential in national history, politics, arts, and science. Location Petrašiūnai Cemetery is located about south-east of the center of Kaunas, Lithuania. It covers over in a quiet area of a peninsula formed by the Neman River where its bend was widened by Kaunas Reservoir. Its name, lt, Petrašiūnų ("of Petrašiūnai"), is based on Petrašiūnai, the borough of the City of Kaunas where it is placed. History The construction of the cemetery began by the end of 1939, burials started in 1941, it was periodically expanded in the late 1950s and needed substantial restoration after the gale of 6 August 2010. Kaunas State Drama Theatre
The National Kaunas Drama Theatre is the biggest theatre in Kaunas, and one of the oldest functioning theatres in Lithuania. There are six different creative spaces for events in the Kaunas Drama Theatre. History Its beginnings date to the 1920s, when the ''Lithuanian Artists' Association'' established drama and opera playhouses. The first play performed by the Kaunas Drama Theatre was Hermann Sudermann's ''St. John's Day'', directed by Juozas Vaičkus, premiering on December 19, 1920, in the former Russian City Theatre, in what is now the Kaunas State Musical Theatre. The company was the only professional theatre organization in Lithuania until 1931 when its branch opened in Šiauliai. Dramas shared the house with opera, and in 1925 they were joined by ballet.
