Juno Beach
Juno or Juno Beach was one of five beaches of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944 during the Second World War. The beach spanned from Courseulles, a village just east of the British beach Gold, to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, and just west of the British beach Sword. Taking Juno was the responsibility of the Canadian Army, with sea transport, mine sweeping, and a naval bombardment force provided by the Royal Canadian Navy and the British Royal Navy as well as elements from the Free French, Norwegian, and other Allied navies. The objectives of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division on D-Day were to cut the Caen-Bayeux road, seize the Carpiquet airport west of Caen, and form a link between the two British beaches on either flank. The beach was defended by two battalions of the German 716th Infantry Division, with elements of the 21st Panzer Division held in reserve near Caen. Juno Beach Centre
The Juno Beach Centre (french: Centre Juno Beach) is a museum located in Courseulles-sur-Mer in the Calvados region of Normandy, France. It is situated immediately behind the beach codenamed Juno, the section of the Allied beachhead on which 14,000 Canadian troops landed on D-Day 6 June 1944. The centre was conceived in the 1990s by a group of Canadian veterans who felt that the contributions and sacrifices of Canadian soldiers during the liberation of Europe were not properly commemorated and represented in the Normandy region. The project, spearheaded by veteran Garth Webb and his companion Lise Cooper, began initially as a grassroots fundraising campaign that eventually gained the financial support of many institutions and businesses and the Canadian and French governments at many levels. The centre was inaugurated on 6 June 2003. Over one thousand Canadian veterans attended the inauguration in 2003, as well as the 2004 ceremony for the 60th anniversary of D-Day. The muse ... Juno Beach Academy Of Canadian Studies
Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies was an Alternative Program public high school in Calgary, Alberta. The Calgary Board of Education ran the program as an alternative for students with a focus on humanities (such as police or military careers). Academic achievement was an area of focus (for those most interested in attending college or university after graduation). There was a particular focus on Canadian studies. History First housed in Van Horne School from 2003–2006, then later in the old Lord Shaughnessy High School from 2006–2009, it was later housed in the Dr Norman Bethune School from 2009 until its closure in 2017. The class of 2007, the first to graduate, was given the opportunity to go to Europe. Juno Beach, Florida
Juno Beach is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. Its population was 3,176 at the 2010 census. As of 2018, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was estimated at 3,648. Juno Beach is home to the headquarters of Florida Power & Light. It was also the original county seat for the area that was then known as Dade County. Juno Beach is in the Miami metropolitan area. History As a sister settlement to the town of Jupiter to the north, the development was named, at some point in the 19th century, after Jupiter's wife, the ancient Roman goddess Juno. The designation in 1944 of a namesake D-Day landing beach in Normandy, named for Juno Dawnay, a Canadian officer's wife, was purely coincidental. A pier was built in 1946 and the town was platted in 1948. The original pier was destroyed during a November storm in 1984 and a new 993-foot Juno Beach Pier built in 1999.
