Junk Culture
''Junk Culture'' is the fifth studio album by English electronic music, electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), released on 30 April 1984 by Virgin Records. After the commercial disappointment of the Experimental music, experimental 1983 album ''Dazzle Ships (album), Dazzle Ships'', OMD and Virgin intended for the group to shift toward a more accessible sound on its follow-up release. The band retained much of their early experimental approach but embraced a wider range of influences than previously, drawing inspiration from Pop music, pop, Dance music, dance, Latin music, Latin and black music. The record's musical style has been characterised as "Talking Heads-meets-Kraftwerk". ''Junk Culture'' became OMD's fourth consecutive Top 10 album in the UK. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic music, electronic band formed in Wirral Peninsula, Wirral, Merseyside, in 1978. The group consists of co-founders Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals), along with Martin Cooper (musician), Martin Cooper (keyboards, saxophone) and Stuart Kershaw (drums); McCluskey has been the only constant member. Regarded as pioneers of electronic music, OMD combined an Experimental music, experimental, Minimal music, minimalist ethos with pop sensibilities, becoming key figures in the late-1970s/early-1980s emergence of synth-pop. The band were also one of the original acts involved in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US. ''Crush'' is the sixth studio album by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), released on 17 June 1985 by Virgin Records. It is the first of two OMD studio albums to be produced by Stephen Hague. Aimed primarily at the US market, ''Crush'' is notable for moving the group toward a more polished sound, although elements of earlier experimentation are still present. During recording the band employed a greater use of organic instrumentation than in the past. ''Crush'' was completed within a limited timescale, with group members later expressing regret over not challenging label-enforced time constraints. The hectic recording and promotion schedule served to diminish morale among the band, who also had reservations about Hague's sleek production. Kraftwerk

Never Turn Away
"Never Turn Away" is a song by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), released on 29 October 1984 as the fourth and final single from their fifth studio album, ''Junk Culture'' (1984). Paul Humphreys sings lead vocals on the track. History The song was first featured on the band's "Showcase Tour" in September 1983 in an unfinished form with the unofficial title of "The Never Song". The short tour, intended to re-establish the band after the commercial flop of '' Dazzle Ships'' earlier in the year, also featured other new songs which would appear on the ''Junk Culture'' album in 1984, as well as the future "Never Turn Away" B-side "Wrappup". Although writing credits are attributed to "OMD", "Never Turn Away" was written by Paul Humphreys.
