Jungle Cavalcade
''Jungle Cavalcade'' is a compilation of footage from Frank Buck’s first three films depicting his adventures capturing animals for the world's zoos. Scenes Among the scenes in the film: * In the Sumatran jungle, Buck builds a trap baited with a durian fruit to capture a giant orangutan for a St. Louis zoo. * When he sees a baby elephant pursued by a tiger, Buck shoots the tiger and captures the elephant. *Buck captures a rare spotted leopard by shooting off the tree limb supporting the cat *After building a four-acre corral, Buck stampedes a herd of elephants into it and then singles out individual elephants to send to zoos. Release The RKO Palace Theater built a tall papier-mâché elephant for the premiere. Armand Denis
Armand Georges Denis (2 December 1896 – 15 April 1971) was a Belgian-born documentary filmmaker. After several decades of pioneering work in filming and presenting the ethnology and wildlife of remote parts of Africa and Asia, he became best known in Britain as the director and co-presenter of natural history programmes on television in the 1950s and 1960s, with his second wife Michaela. Palace Theatre (New York City)
The Palace Theatre is a Broadway theater at 1564 Broadway, facing Times Square, in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. Designed by Milwaukee architects Kirchoff & Rose, the theater was funded by Martin Beck and opened in 1913. From its opening to about 1929, the Palace was considered among vaudeville performers as the flagship of Benjamin Franklin Keith and Edward Franklin Albee II's organization. The theater had 1,743 seats across three levels . The modern Palace Theatre consists of a three-level auditorium at 47th Street, which is a New York City designated landmark. The auditorium contains ornately designed plasterwork, boxes on the side walls, and two balcony levels that slope downward toward the stage. A compilation film, or compilation movie is a film composed of scenes and shots taken from two or more prior films and edited together so as to make a new film, whether on the same or a different subject. The most common example would be a documentary film on an historical event composed of footage from various newsreels and other film documentaries on the same subject. New footage and/or a new soundtrack may also be included in a compilation film, but the compiled, older footage makes up the majority of its principal material. Compilation film does not include, however, a simple editing together of several short films, complete in themselves and distinguished as such from each others, which should be considered as film anthologies. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. RCA chief David Sarnoff engineered the merger to create a market for the company's sound-on-film technology, RCA Photophone, and in early 1929 production began under the RKO name (an abbreviation of Radio-Keith-Orpheum). Jay Bonafield
William Jay Bonafield (March 29, 1910 – June 5, 1961) was a producer who edited Frank Buck's film Jungle Cavalcade. Jay Bonafield was the son of Hugh William Bonafield (1876–1939) and Berta C. Montgomery Bonafield (1878–1965). Jay was educated in local schools, and left school after eighth grade, according to the 1940 US Census. Jay joined Pathé News in 1931. In 1941 he edited Frank Buck's Jungle Cavalcade. In 1946 Bonafield was named vice president of RKO-Pathé in charge of non-newsreel productions. In 1952 he was placed in charge of RKO short subjects.
