Jump Up Tour
The Jump Up! Tour was a worldwide concert tour by English musician and composer Elton John, in support of his 16th studio album '' Jump Up!''. The tour included five legs (Australia, Europe, North America, UK and South Africa) and a total of 135 shows. Tour On 10 March 1982, the Athletic Park in Wellington was the site of Davey Johnstone’s return to the Elton John band, reuniting the classic band on stage for the first time in eight years. Elton John, Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson then took the Jump Up! Tour across Australia and Europe (and blasting through New York on 17 April with a powerful performance of " Empty Garden" and "Ball And Chain" on ''Saturday Night Live'') before launching their North American tour on 12 June at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Jump Up! (Elton John Album)
''Jump Up!'' is the sixteenth studio album by English musician Elton John. It was released in 1982 by The Rocket Record Company except in the US and Canada, where it was released by Geffen Records. Background The album includes "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)", a tribute to John Lennon (who had also signed to Geffen for the release of ''Double Fantasy'', which is now owned by EMI). This is one of the first few LPs that showcases John singing in a deeper voice, as can be heard in songs such as "Blue Eyes", "Princess", " Ball and Chain" and "Spiteful Child". "Legal Boys" was written by John and Tim Rice, who later wrote lyrics for ''The Lion King'' and ''The Road to El Dorado''. This is the last studio album in which James Newton Howard played keyboards (although he would play keyboards with John again on the soundtrack of ''Gnomeo & Juliet'' almost 30 years later). "Teacher I Need You" is a song written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was first released on John's 1973 album ''Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player''. The lyrics tell of a schoolboy's crush on his teacher, and the music evokes the sound of 1950s songs. Although never released as a single, the song was popular on album-oriented rock radio stations. It was included in John's live concert sets on a number of tours, including 1973, 1982 and 1984. Quarterflash
Quarterflash (previously stylized as QuarterFlash) was an American rock group formed in 1980 in Portland, Oregon. The band was originally made up of the two current members, Orinda Sue "Rindy" Ross (lead vocals and saxophone) and her husband Marv Ross (guitars), along with Jack Charles (guitars), Rick DiGiallonardo (keyboards/synthesizers), Rich Gooch (electric bass), and Brian David Willis (drums and percussion). Having a lead singer who also played the saxophone made Quarterflash notable. In a 1982 interview, Rindy Ross said that she viewed the saxophone as an extension of her voice, enabling her to express things she could not express with her voice alone. "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)" is a song by English musician Elton John, written by John and Bernie Taupin, which first appeared on his sixteenth album '' Jump Up!'' released in 1982. It was the second single of the said album in the UK, and the lead single in the United States. The song is a tribute to John Lennon, who had been murdered 15 months earlier. Composition and background Lennon and John were good friends, and in 1974, Lennon appeared on John's single cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", the B-side of which was Lennon's "One Day (At a Time)". Yoko Ono
Yoko Ono ( ; ja, 小野 洋子, Ono Yōko, usually spelled in katakana ; born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, and peace activist. Her work also encompasses performance art and filmmaking. Ono grew up in Tokyo and moved to New York City in 1953 with her family. She became involved with New York City's downtown artists scene in the early 1960s, which included the Fluxus group, and became well known in 1969 when she married English musician John Lennon of the Beatles.
