Julie Thomas (lawn Bowler)
Julie Thomas (born 9 July 1967) is a Welsh lawn bowler. Thomas was a head teacher at a primary school until she lost her sight She only took up the sport in 2014 and 2 months later won her first Welsh title. Thomas went on to win her first British Isles title in 2015 taking a Gold medal in the B2 category. She was the first Welsh Para athlete to hold an Indoor and Outdoor title at the same time. Thomas has won 4 Gold medals since. She competed at the Lawn bowls at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2018 Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze medal in the Lawn bowls at the 2018 Commonwealth Games – Mixed para-sport pairs, mixed para-sport pairs event alongside Gilbert Miles. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls"). It is normally played outdoors (although there are many indoor venues) and the outdoor surface is either natural grass, artificial turf or cotula (in New Zealand). The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It was the fifth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games and the first time a major multi-sport had an equal number of events for male and female athletes. 4,426 athletes including 300 para-athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event. Lawn bowls at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held at the Broadbeach Bowls Club in the Gold Coast, Australia from April 5 to 13. Lawn bowls is one of ten core sports at the Commonwealth Games and has been continuously held at every Games since the 1930 British Empire Games, with the exception of the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. Gilbert 'Gib' LaMott Miles (November 24, 1955September 4, 2023) was a Cheyenne and Arapaho politician who served as the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes Lieutenant Governor from January 2018 until his death on September 4, 2023. Biography Gilbert 'Gib' LaMott Miles was born on November 24, 1955, in Oklahoma City to LeRoy LaMott and Melba Sharp Miles. His family moved to Yukon when he was 13 and he graduated from Yukon High School in 1974 where he was the starting point guard, winning the State Basketball Championship.
