Julie Roy (born May 11, 1973) is a Canadians, Canadian producer of animated films, who since 2014 is the executive producer of the French animation studio at the National Film Board."NFB Names Julie Roy Executive Producer" ''Animation World Network'', April 30, 2014. Cinémathèque Québécoise
The Cinémathèque québécoise is a film conservatory in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its purpose is to preserve, document, film and television footage and related documents and artifacts for future use by the public. The Cinémathèque's collections include over 35,000 films from all eras and countries, 25,000 television programmes, 28,000 posters, 600,000 photos, 2,000 pieces of historical equipment, 15,000 scripts and production documents, 45,000 books, 3,000 magazine titles, thousands of files as well as objects, props and costumes. The conservatory also includes a film theatre which screens rarely seen film and video. ''In Deep Waters'' (french: Dans les eaux profondes) is a Canadian-French co-produced animated film, directed by Sarah Van Den Boom and released in 2014. An exploration of vanishing twin pregnancies, the film depicts three characters whose lives have been profoundly impacted by having had twin siblings who died in utero. The film's voice cast included Fred Bianconi, Denis Michaud, Béatrice Picard and Mathilde Van den Boom in the French version, and Julian Casey, Miranda Handford, Joanna Noyes and Richard Jutras in the English version. René Jodoin
René Jodoin (30 December 1920 – 22 January 2015) was an animation director and producer who founded the French-language animation studio of the National Film Board of Canada. Born in Hull, Quebec on December 30, 1920, Jodoin died in Montreal on January 22, 2015 at the age of 94. Joining the NFB Jodoin was invited by animation pioneer Norman McLaren to join the NFB in 1943. He worked in the NFB's original animation unit, then left the NFB in 1947. He returned to the Film Board in 1954, working in a variety of capacities, including as head of an NFB animation program producing films for the Department of National Defence and as head of NFB's Science Film Program. 2017 Cannes Film Festival
The 70th Cannes Film Festival took place from 17 to 28 May 2017, in Cannes, France. Spanish film director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar was the President of the Jury for the festival and Italian actress Monica Bellucci hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. '' Ismael's Ghosts'', directed by French director Arnaud Desplechin, was the opening film for the festival. The festival celebrated its 70th edition. In late March 2017, the official poster of the festival was revealed featuring Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. The actress responded, "'I am honoured and proud to be flying the flag for the 70th Festival de Cannes, and delighted with this choice of photo. The Tesla World Light
''The Tesla World Light'' (French: ''Tesla : lumière mondiale'') is an 8-minute 2017 black and white avant-garde film by Montreal director Matthew Rankin imagining the latter days of inventor Nikola Tesla in 1905 in New York City. Rankin has stated that he was interested in exploring Tesla's optimistic utopian vision. The film is a fanciful amalgamation of elements from Tesla's life including his 1905 pleadings for J.P. Morgan to continue funding his World Wireless System and his love for a pigeon. Rankin has stated that "everything in the film is drawn from something eslawrote or said." The film uses excerpts of Tesla's actual letters to Morgan, which the filmmaker found in the Library of Congress; even a reference to Tesla falling in love with an "electric pigeon" was based on an interview with Tesla, according to Rankin. The Head Vanishes
''The Head Vanishes'' (French:''Une tête disparaît'') is a 2016 Canada/France animated short by Franck Dion about a woman with dementia who is determined to make her annual train trip to the seaside. Co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada, Papy3D Productions and ARTE France, the film was partly inspired by Dion's experiences with his great-grandmother, with whom he was close and saw deteriorate mentally while he was a child. Dion began to work on the film in 2014, after deciding to depart from a feature-film project. A key narrative element in the film is the central character literally "losing her head" on the train trip—again inspired by a true-life anecdote involving his ill grandmother, who had once asked Dion's mother to fetch her head from under the sink, believing that it had rolled under there.
