Julian S. Garcia
Julian S. Garcia has been involved in Chicano literature since the late 1970s when the San Antonio arts and politics journal ''Caracol'' had its offices on West Commerce Street in San Antonio, Texas. In 1985, Garcia became one of ''Caracol'' associate editors. He was also an Associate editor of ''ViAztlan'', an international journal of ideas and philosophy. A deconstructionist with a penchant for Aristotelian logic and a mentor to Tejano writers, Garcia has a written articles and editorials under a nom-de-plume. Early life and education Garcia graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Bilingual Education. He earned a master's degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1977. Chicano Literature
Mexican American literature is literature written by Mexican Americans in the United States. Although its origins can be traced back to the sixteenth century, the bulk of Mexican American literature dates from post-1848 and the United States annexation of large parts of Mexico in the wake of the Mexican–American War. Today, as a part of American literature in general, this genre includes a vibrant and diverse set of narratives, prompting critics to describe it as providing "a new awareness of the historical and cultural independence of both northern and southern American hemispheres". Tejano
Tejanos (, ; singular: ''Tejano/a''; Spanish for "Texan", originally borrowed from the Caddo ''tayshas'') are the residents of the state of Texas who are culturally descended from the Mexican population of Tejas and Coahuila that lived in the region prior to it becoming what is now known as the state of Texas before it became a U.S. state in 1845. The term is also sometimes applied to all Texans of Mexican descent. The original word Tejano, with a "J" not an "X', comes from the indigenous Caddo people's language, from the word ''tayshas'', in which the word means "friend" or "ally", a title given to the indigenous population that moved northward by early Aztec and Spanish rulers and combined forces, including, but not limited to, the Lipan N'de Apache People, Coahuiltecas, and Huasteca indigenous people from Zacatecas. Our Lady Of The Lake University
Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), known locally as the Lake, is a private Catholic university in San Antonio, Texas. It was founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Divine Providence, a religious institute originating in Lorraine, France, during the 18th century.
