Juli Soler
Juli Soler (31 May 1949 – 6 July 2015) was an entrepreneur from Spain. He was the co-owner and manager of elBulli, a world famous restaurant outside of Barcelona. Early life and career Soler began working in the food industry at the age of 13, as an assistant waiter. In 1981, he was offered the position as a general manager at elBulli. He was largely responsible for the success of elBulli. He was responsible for hiring French chef, Jean-Paul Vinay who eventually helped the restaurant to gain its second Michelin star. In 1984, he also hired Ferran Adrià as chef, who later went on to become a celebrity chef and author. ElBulli
El Bulli () was a restaurant near the town of Roses, Catalonia, Spain, run by chef Ferran Adrià and driven by the culinary ideas of Albert Adrià. The restaurant overlooked Cala Montjoi, a bay on Catalonia's Costa Brava. It held three Michelin stars and was described in UK newspaper ''The Guardian'' as "the most imaginative generator of haute cuisine on the planet". The restaurant was also associated with molecular gastronomy. El Bulli closed on 30 July 2011 and was reopened as a creativity centre in 2014. Restaurant The restaurant had a limited season: the PIXA season, for example, ran from 15 June to 20 December. Jean-Paul Vinay
Jean-Paul Vinay (18 July 1910 – 10 April 1999) was a French-Canadian linguist. He is considered one of the pioneers in translation studies, along with Jean Darbelnet, with whom Vinay co-authored ''Stylistique comparée du français et de l'anglais'' (1958), a seminal work in the field. Life and career Vinay was born in Paris in 1910 and soon moved to Le Havre. He studied English and philology at the University of Caen and at the University of Paris before receiving an M.A. in phonetics and philology from University College, London, in 1937. In 1946, Vinay moved to Canada and became professor and head of the Department of Linguistics and Translation at the Université de Montréal. In 1967, he began teaching at the University of Victoria, until his retirement in 1976. The Michelin Guides ( ) are a series of guide books that have been published by the French tyre company Michelin since 1900. The Guide awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few establishments. The acquisition or loss of a star or stars can have dramatic effects on the success of a restaurant. Ferran Adrià
Ferran Adrià i Acosta (; born 14 May 1962) is a Spanish chef. He was the head chef of the ''El Bulli'' restaurant in Roses on the Costa Brava and is considered one of the best chefs in the world. He has often collaborated with his brother, the renowned pastry chef Albert Adrià. Career Ferran Adrià began his culinary career in 1980 during his stint as a dishwasher at the Hotel Playafels, in the town of Castelldefels. The ''chef de cuisine'' at this hotel taught him traditional Spanish cuisine. At 19 he was drafted into military service where he worked as a cook. In 1984, at the age of 22, Adrià joined the kitchen staff of elBulli as a line cook. Eighteen months later he became the head chef. In 1994, Ferran Adrià and Juli Soler (his partner) sold 20% of their business to Miquel Horta (a Spanish millionaire and philanthropist and son of the founder of Nenuco) for 120 million pesetas.
