Juggaknots
Juggaknots is an American hip hop group from New York City. It consists of siblings Breeze Brewin (Paul Smith), Queen Herawin (Peridot Smith), and Buddy Slim (Kevin Smith). The group has collaborated with Mr. Len, Sadat X, and Prince Paul. History Juggaknot's debut studio album, ''Clear Blue Skies'', was released on the vinyl-only New York independent Fondle 'Em Records in 1996. It is considered an underground classic by critics such as ''Exclaim!'' and ''HipHopDX''. It was re-released as '' Re:Release'' with 11 bonus tracks in 2003. In 2006, the group released a studio album, ''Use Your Confusion'', which features guest appearances by Sadat X, Wordsworth, and Slick Rick, among others. It was released through Amalgam Digital after a deal was signed with the independent label. In 2015, the group released a collection of previously unreleased tracks, titled ''Baby Pictures (C. 1989-1993)''. ''Use Your Confusion'' is a 2006 studio album by American hip hop group Juggaknots. It was released on Amalgam Digital. Critical reception Marisa Brown of AllMusic wrote, "It certainly shows the Juggaknots' maturity and their abilities as complete artists, and is a welcome return." Nate Patrin of ''Pitchfork (website), Pitchfork'' called the album "one of the most immediate and accessible indie rap records of 2006" and "a strong reestablishment of a group too good to be forgotten." Fondle 'Em Records
Fondle 'Em Records was a hip hop record label founded and owned by Robert "Bobbito" Garcia from 1995 to 2001, based in New York, New York. Bobbito formed the label after realizing that the many unsigned rappers making guest appearances on ''The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show'', a program Bobbito co-hosted with DJ Stretch Armstrong on Columbia University radio station WKCR 89.9 FM, didn't have a proper outlet for their talents. Fondle 'Em, along with Rawkus Records, Solesides, Stones Throw Records and a handful of other small independent imprints helped jumpstart the underground hip hop scene in the late 1990s, on the east coast, establishing the subgenre as a viable branch of hip hop culture & rap music. Company Flow
Company Flow was an American hip hop trio from Brooklyn, New York City, consisting of Bigg Jus, El-P and Mr. Len. The group was at one time associated with the independent record label Rawkus Records. Rapper/ producer El-P and DJ/producer Mr. Len founded the group in 1992 in Queens, New York where rapper/producer Bigg Jus later joined. History Founding members El-P and Mr. Len met when the latter was hired to perform as a DJ at the former's 18th birthday party. The two quickly became friends and formed Company Flow in 1993. They released their first vinyl single, "Juvenile Techniques". Amalgam Digital is an independent record label based in East Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2006 by Anyextee, the privately owned label had been home to a variety of artists throughout the decade before significantly downsizing in its later years. The label's online store was the first genre-specific digital download store specializing in hip hop music. It focuses on independent labels and artists through the implementation of a new user-generated content module that allowed artists to upload content directly to the site for immediate purchase. Amalgam Digital also houses an exclusive independent record label by the same name, specializing in hip hop music and distribution.
