Judy Et Cie
Belgium was represented by Pierre Rapsat, with the song "Judy et Cie", at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 3 April in The Hague. Rapsat was the winner of the Belgian national final for the contest, held on 21 January. Before Eurovision Avant Eurovision French-language broadcaster RTB was in charge of the selection of the Belgian entry for the 1976 Contest. Five songs competed in the final hosted by Jacques Mercier (the venue is currently unknown). The winner was chosen by a jury consisting of "experts" and members of the public. Only the winner was announced. At Eurovision On the night of the final Rapsat performed 6th in the running order, following Luxembourg and preceding Ireland. At the close of the voting "Judy et Cie" had received 68 points from 11 countries, placing Belgium 8th of the 18 competing entries. Pierre Rapsat
Pierre Rapsat (born Pierre Raepsaet, 28 May 1948 – 20 April 2002) was a Belgian singer-songwriter who had a very successful career in his homeland and also spells of popularity in other Francophone countries. Outside these areas, he is best known for his participation in the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest. Early life and career Rapsat was born in the Ixelles municipality of Brussels to a Flemish father and a mother of Asturian descent. When Rapsat was 10 years old the family moved to Verviers, which remained his home for the rest of his life. He started performing with various groups before launching a solo career in 1973. His musical style was eclectic, ranging from rock to chanson, but at this stage earned him little success. 1976 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 1976 was the 21st edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in The Hague, Netherlands, following the country's victory at the with the song "Ding-a-dong" by Teach-In (band), Teach-In. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS), the contest was held at the World Forum (The Hague), Nederlands Congrescentrum on 3 April 1976 and was hosted by 1957 Dutch Eurovision winner Corry Brokken. Jacques Mercier (born 17 October 1943 in Mouscron) is a Belgian writer and television and radio presenter. The third eldest son of René and Denise Mercier, Jacques Mercier was educated at St. Joseph's College. Mercier joined RTBF in September 1963 and started his career by hosting radio shows such as ''Dimanche musique'' (with ) and ''Musique au petit déjeuner''.
