Judith Stewart Dresser Bridge
The Barrett's Ferry Bridge, officially known as the Judith Stewart Dresser Bridge, is a fixed-span bridge which carries Virginia State Route 5, State Route 5 across the Chickahominy River between Charles City County, Virginia, Charles City County and James City County, Virginia, James City County in eastern Virginia. It connects popular tourism destinations of the James River Plantations with Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, Virginia, Jamestown. The current bridge, which opened on January 24, 2009, replaced the deteriorating 70-year-old bridge. 1939 bridge The original bridge, built in 1939 by Tidewater Construction, was a swing bridge, swing-span movable bridge. The Virginia Capital Trail (VCT) (informally, the ''Cap Trail'', or simply ''the Cap'') is a dedicated, paved bicycle and pedestrian trail crossing four counties and between Jamestown and Richmond, Virginia — that is, between the Colony of Virginia's first ''capital'' and Virginia's current ''capital'', with an alternate end (via an extension) at Williamsburg, the last colonial capital.
