Henry Galbraith Ward
Henry Galbraith Ward (April 19, 1851 – August 24, 1933) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and of the United States Circuit Courts for the Second Circuit. Education and career Born on April 19, 1851, in New York City, New York, Ward received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in 1870 from the University of Pennsylvania and read law in 1873. He entered private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1882 to 1884. He continued private practice in New York City starting in 1884. Federal judicial service Ward received a recess appointment from President Theodore Roosevelt on May 18, 1907, to a joint seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Circuit Courts for the Second Circuit vacated by Judge William James Wallace. Hiram Hamilton Ward (April 29, 1923 – April 4, 2002) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. Education and career Born in Thomasville, North Carolina, Ward received a Bachelor of Laws from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1950. He served in the United States Army Air Forces (rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel) from 1940 to 1945. He was in private practice in Denton, North Carolina from 1950 to 1951. He was a staff attorney for the National Production Authority in Washington, D.C. from 1951 to 1952. He was in private practice in Lexington and Denton from 1952 to 1972. Horace Taliaferro Ward (July 29, 1927 – April 23, 2016) was a lawyer, state legislator, and judge in Georgia. He become known for his efforts to challenge the racially discriminatory practices at the University of Georgia School of Law and was the first African American to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
