Jubiabá (film)
''Jubiabá'' (french: Bahia de tous les saints) is a 1986 Brazilian-French romantic drama film directed by Nelson Pereira dos Santos. Based on Jubiabá, the novel of the same name by Jorge Amado, it stars Charles Baiano and Françoise Goussard as two lovers. Plot The black orphan Balduíno (Charles Baiano) is adopted by the Commendatory abbot, commendator Ferreira (Raymond Pellegrin), and falls in love with Ferreira's heiress, the white Lindinalva (Françoise Goussard). A day, he is kicked out of the Ferreira's house, becoming a famous ''malandro'' in Bahia streets. Even away from Lindinalva, their love is blessed by the ''pai-de-santo'' Jubiabá (Grande Otelo). Nelson Pereira Dos Santos
Nelson Pereira dos Santos (22 October 1928 21 April 2018) was a Brazilian film director. He directed films such as ''Vidas secas (film), Vidas Secas'' (Barren Lives), based on the Vidas Secas, book with the same name by Brazilian writer Graciliano Ramos. Biography Pereira dos Santos, named in honor of Almirante Horatio Nelson, was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Himself a frequenter of the cinema, Pereira dos Santos's father brought his very young son to the movie theater for the first time. By secondary school Pereira dos Santos was already fond of literature, and at 15 years old he joined the Brazilian Communist Party and became close to one of its other members, Astrojildo Pereira, Astrogildo Pereira. At the time the party was considered illegal by the government of Getúlio Vargas. The first feature film he directed was ''Rio 40°'', which was released in 1955. Eliana Pittman
Eliana Pittman (born Eliana Leite Da Silva; August 14, 1945), is a Brazilian former singer and actress. Pittman was one of the more soulful singers of the early 1970s. The stepdaughter of the jazz saxophonist Booker Pittman, she was deeply influenced and encouraged by him to become an artist, as he was her first music teacher, mentor and partner on some records. With a distinctive swinging voice and intensity in her style, Pittman was a brilliant scat singer who turned insipid novelty tunes and light pop into definitive, jazz based treatment. Her first great hit was ''Tristeza'', recorded in 1966, which gained her instant recognition in South America, though she never had a huge hit like Astrud Gilberto's ''Garota de Ipanema''. Ruth De Souza
Ruth Pinto de Souza (May 12, 1921 – July 28, 2019) was a Brazilian actress. Biography As a member of the Black Experimental Theater (''Teatro Experimental do Negro,'' TEN), she is one of the first Black actresses in dramatic theater in Brazil and one of the first to perform at the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. The Black Experimental Theater was created in 1944 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to combat racism and create opportunities for Black talent in theater. Along with other Afro-Brazilians women, Ruth participated in the premiere performance of TEN as a member of the chorus and later played the Native Woman, the only female character in Eugene O'Neill's play ''The Emperor Jones''. She was awarded with Prêmio Saci. She died in Rio de Janeiro in the neighbourhood of Copacabana in July 2019 at the age of 98.
