2020 Súper Liga Americana De Rugby Season
The 2020 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby season was the inaugural season of Súper Liga Americana de Rugby, an annual rugby union competition sanctioned by Sudamérica Rugby. The competition began on 4 March and was scheduled to end on 29 May. On 17 March 2020, the league was suspended until 2021, effectively ending this season after two rounds of play due to the COVID-19 pandemic in South America. Teams Season format Five of the six clubs in the competition competed in the regular season, which was to take place over 10 weeks and would consist of a double round-robin, with each participating club playing 4 matches at home and 4 matches away. The 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby season was the second season of Súper Liga Americana de Rugby, an annual rugby union competition sanctioned by Sudamérica Rugby. The competition began on 16 March and ended on 15 May. Teams Team changes Ceibos did not compete in the 2021 edition of the competition, having been replaced by the Argentine Rugby Union with the Jaguares XV. The Brazilian side are now known as Cobras Brasil XV or Cobras following the end of relationship with the Corinthians multi-sport club. The Colombian Cafeteros Pro also debuted this year. Super Rugby Americas (SRA) will be the new franchise rugby tournament format in America, and the first season will begin on February 18, 2023 after efforts by World Rugby. It will be organized and led by Sudamérica Rugby, the highest rugby entity in South America. It will be a contest on two wheels, all against all, which will integrate seven teams through franchises. In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. The Uruguay national rugby sevens team participates at the World Rugby and Sudamérica Rugby tournaments for rugby sevens national teams. Uruguay won the Sudamérica Rugby Sevens in 2012, and was runner-up six times. The team was fourth at both the 2011 and 2015 Pan American Games. Uruguay played six rounds of the inaugural 1999–2000 World Sevens Series, scoring series points at the 2000 Punta del Este Sevens and 2000 Fiji Sevens.
