Juanita Head Walton
Juanita Head Walton (May 19, 1954 – April 12, 2016) was a real estate agent, flight attendant, instructor at colleges, and director of a business organization who served as a state representative in Missouri. She graduated from Kinloch High School, Lincoln University, and Lindenwood University, She also earned a master's degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She married Elbert Walton, an attorney, and later divorced. Kinloch High School
Kinloch High School was a segregated high school in Kinloch, Missouri, part of St. Louis County. It operated from 1936–1976. History Prior to the Civil War, black children were not allowed to receive an education in Missouri. After the Civil War, schooling started for black students. Douglass Elementary School opened in the 1890s and evolved into Douglass High School in the 1920s. Black communities in St. Louis were in such areas as North Webster, and Kinloch. In the 1930s, there was no high school whatsoever in Kinloch, for blacks or whites. Black children in Kinloch who wished to go to high school had to travel to other parts of the city such as Sumner High School (if they could afford the tuition) or Douglass High School (if they could somehow prove residency in far off Webster Groves). Lincoln University (Missouri)
Lincoln University (Lincoln U) is a public, historically black, land-grant university in Jefferson City, Missouri. Founded in 1866 by African-American veterans of the American Civil War, it is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. This was the first black university in the state. In the fall 2021, the university enrolled 1,794 students. History During the Civil War, the 62nd Colored Infantry regiment of the U.S. Army, largely recruited in Missouri, set up educational programs for its soldiers. At the end of the war it raised $6,300 to set up a black school, headed by a white abolitionist officer, Richard Foster and founded by James Milton Turner, a student and protege of John Berry Meachum. Foster opened the Lincoln Institute in Jefferson City in 1866. Lincoln had a black student body, both black and white teachers, and outside support from religious groups.
