Juan Zurita
Juan Zurita (2 May 1917 – 24 March 2000) was a Mexican Boxing, professional boxer in the lightweight division and a 1944 National Boxing Association Lightweight world champion. Zurita was a southpaw or left handed boxer, who often fought with his right foot forward, though at times he could lead with his right as well. American newspapers distinguished him as the first native-born Mexican to win a world boxing title. Early life and career Zurita was born on May 2, 1917 near Veracruz, Mexico on the Atlantic Coast. He began fighting professionally in early 1932, on the Western Mexican coast in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Richie Lemos
Richie Lemos (Feb 7, 1920 – October 18, 2004) was an American professional boxer in the Featherweight division. He became an NBA World Featherweight Champion in July 1941. Early life and career Lemos was born in Los Angeles, near First and Main by the historic Olvera Street, on February 7, 1920. His parents were from Mexico, his mother Michaela from Guadalajara, Jalisco and his father Feliciano from Michoacán. Their struggling family would eventually have nine more children after his birth. Though American-born, his ring nicknames included "Plaza Mexican" and "Mexican Tiger." At only eighteen, on July 15, 1938, Lemos defeated prolific Philippine boxer Pablo Dano, holder of the 1935 California World Bantamweight Title, in a ten-round points decision, though he was knocked to the mat twice. Sixto Escobar
Sixto Escobar (March 23, 1913 – November 17, 1979) was a Puerto Rican professional boxer. Competing in the bantamweight division, he became Puerto Rico's first world champion. Escobar was born in Barceloneta and raised in San Juan. There he received his primary education and took interest in boxing. After gathering a record of 21–1–1 as an amateur, Escobar debuted as a professional in 1931 defeating Luis "Kid Dominican" Pérez by knockout. Early in his career, he moved to Venezuela due to the lack of opponents in his division. There he received an opportunity for the Venezuelan Bantamweight championship, but lost by points to Enrique Chaffardet. Subsequently, he moved to New York and began boxing in other states, eventually capturing the Montreal Athletic Commission World Bantamweight Title. Rodolfo Casanova, also known as ''Baby'' Casanova or ''Chango'' Casanova (June 21, 1915 – November 23, 1980) was a Mexican professional boxer. He was also the first Mexican to fight a Puerto Rican in the Mexico – Puerto Rico boxing rivalry. Early life Rodolfo was born during the Mexican Revolution, his father Don Rafael Casanova died in that war. His mother moved the family to Mexico City after the death. Diosdado Posadas (December 25, 1906 - July 2, 1990), better known as Speedy Dado, was a Filipino boxer who contended for the world flyweight, bantamweight, and featherweight championships. His managers included Frank Churchill, and Jesus Cortez. Boxing career Dado was born Diosdado B. Posadas in Manila on December 25, 1906. In an era when Asian boxers would often be referred to only by their nationality, he took the last two syllables of his birth name to use in the ring.
