René Cardona
René Cardona (October 8, 1905 in Havana, Cuba – April 25, 1988, in Mexico City) was a director, actor, producer, screenwriter, and film editor in the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Biography René Cardona was born in Havana, Cuba, on October 8, 1905, and began medical school in Cuba, but due to the political problems of the island, he and his family moved to New York City in 1926, where he continued his studies. Economic circumstances experienced by his family caused him to leave his studies. He befriended famous actor Rodolfo Valentino and obtained work as an extra in several films, until 1929 when he produced, wrote, directed and starred in the first Spanish-language film made in Hollywood, ''Sombras habaneras'' (''Havana Shadows''). Irma Aguirre Martínez (born 21 December 1933), commonly known as Irma Dorantes, is a Mexican actress, singer, and equestrian. One of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Career Her first film, '' Los tres huastecos'', was released in 1948. Dorantes participated in many Mexican films of the 1950s and 1960s. In 1963, she was nominated for a Silver Goddess Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in ''Sol en llamas'' (1962). Aside from acting, she is also a successful singer, obtaining gold and platinum records for her versions of the songs "Cuando no sé de ti", "Pequeña", "Ansiedad", "Recuerdos de Ipacarai", and "La Flor de la Canela". She was also known for her equestrian shows. In 1964, Dorantes and her horses Gatillo de Oro and Justiciero headed a touring company at the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, California. Daniel Herrera Bates (3 January 1903 – 29 September 1983), better known as Chino Herrera, was a Mexican actor and comedian. He performed for radio, television, film and theater in Mexico for over 60 years. Biography The son of theatrical actor Héctor Herrera, he was nicknamed "Chino" ("the Chinese one") due to his facial features resembling that of Chinese people. He debuted as an actor in the vernacular comedy theater with his father in his hometown of Mérida, Yucatán. He ventured into Mexican cinema during the so-called Golden Age of Mexican cinema in the late 1930s.
