Juan Núñez De Prado (conquistador)
Juan Núñez de Prado was a 16th-century Spanish conquistador who is known for his conquest of Tucumán Province in what is now Argentina. Early career Juan Núñez de Prado was born in Badajoz, in the Extremadura region of Spain. He moved to Peru in the early 1540s, and became a supporter of Gonzalo Pizarro, taking part on his side in the civil wars. Before 1548 he had been appointed ''Alcade'' of the Potosí mines. While holding this office, he went over to the royal forces before the Battle of Jaquijahuana and assisted in the victory over Pizarro's supporters. At the end of the civil war Captain Núñez de Prado returned to the city of Chuquisaca in Upper Peru. Since the royal forces had triumphed at Jaquijahuana, in 1549 Pedro de la Gasca granted Juan Núñez de Prado the territory of Tucumán in modern Argentina in return for his valuable services. Juan Núñez De La Peña
Juan Núñez de la Peña (May 1641 – January 3, 1721) was a Spanish historian. Born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, he studied Latin and the humanities in the college of San Agustín de La Laguna and was subsequently ordained priest. He worked in Toledo as a notary before returning to the Canary Islands. There he began to compile and preserve for posterity municipal, notarial, and ecclesiastic documents that allowed him to write a history of the islands, called ''Conquista y antigüedades de las islas de la Gran Canaria y su descripción, con muchas advertencias de sus privilegios, conquistadores, pobladores y otras particularidades en la muy poderosa isla de Tenerife, dirigido a la milagrosa imagen de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria''. Juan Núñez (born 23 September 1956) is a former professional tennis player and coach, from Chile. Playing career Núñez partnered Alejandro Gattiker at the 1977 French Open but the pair were unable to get past the first round. In 1979, Núñez was a singles quarter-finalist at the Santiago Grand Prix tournament, with wins over Fernando Luna and Andrés Gómez. He played John McEnroe in the opening round of the 1981 US Open and claimed the first set in a tiebreak, before losing in four. In the doubles, Núñez and Fernando Maynetto lost in the first round. Also that year, he made the round of 16 in the singles draw at the Boston Pro Championships. Coaching Núñez coached Chris Evert in the late 1980s, before joining Arantxa Sánchez Vicario in 1989.
