Juan Ignacio Luca de Tena y García de Torres, 2nd Marquis of Luca de Tena (Madrid, 23 October 1897 – 11 January 1975) was a Spanish politician, diplomat, journalist and playwright. Career Luca de Tena was Member of the Cortes (1958–64) and Ambassador of Spain to Chile (1940–44) and to Greece (1961–62). Personal life His son was the journalist Guillermo Luca de Tena. His daughter, María Victoria Luca de Tena, was married to Nemesio Fernández-Cuesta, a businessman and journalist. The Most Excellent (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Excelentísimo Señor'' (male) or ''Excelentísima Señora'' (female), literally "Most Excellent Sir/Madam") is an honorific prefix that is traditionally applied to certain people in Spain and certain Spanish-speaking countries. Following Spanish tradition, it is an ''ex officio'' style (the holder has it as long as they remain in office, in the most important positions of state) and is used in written documents and very formal occasions. The prefix is similar (but not equal) to that of "Excellency, His/Her Excellency", but in the 19th century "The Most Excellent" began to replace the former. The Order of Merit ( es, link=no, Orden al Mérito) is a Chilean Order (distinction), order and was created in 1929. Succeeding the Medal of the Merit, which was created during the term of the President Germán Riesco through the Minister of War decree No. 1350 on 4 September 1906. This new national distinction was created to recognize the meritorious service provided by foreign military personnel to Chilean officials. The order is only awarded to foreigners. History In 1817, Bernardo O'Higgins created the Legion of Merit, with the aim of recognizing the ones who have provided help to Chile, specially during its Independence of Chile, independence. In 1823, when O'Higgins fled the country after his abdication, the Legion was extinct.
