Juan Habichuela
Juan Habichuela (''né'' Juan Carmona Carmona; 193330 June 2016) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist who began his artistic life as a dancer, and later learned guitar from his father and from a guitarist from Granada known as Ovejilla. He accompanied some of the most famous singers of the time such as Manolo Caracol, Juan Valderrama, Fosforito, and Enrique Morente. He was nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album in 2000. Habichuela received the Latin Grammy Trustees Award in 2012 for "significant contributions, other than performance, to the field of recording during their careers". Flamenco Guitar
A flamenco guitar is a guitar similar to a classical guitar but with thinner tops and less internal bracing. It usually has nylon strings, like the classical guitar, but it generally possesses a livelier, more gritty sound compared to the classical guitar. It is used in ''toque'', the guitar-playing part of the art of flamenco. History Traditionally, luthiers made guitars to sell at a wide range of prices, largely based on the materials used and the amount of decorations, to cater to the popularity of the instrument across all classes of people in Spain. The cheapest guitars were often simple, basic instruments made from the less expensive woods such as cypress. Rancapino
Rancapino (born Alonso Núñez Núñez, in 1945) is a Spanish Romani flamenco singer. Born in Chiclana de la Frontera in 1945, he was grandson of "La Obispa" and son of "Manuel Orillito". He is brother of another flamenco singer "Orillo del Puerto". His stage name "Rancapino" arose from his childhood. He was always running naked from side to side and his gipsy neighbour “El Mono” used to call him “Rancapino” because he looked like a burning pine. Rancapino began as a singer during his childhood, acting at family and neighborhood parties. Friend and mate of Camaron de la Isla from his childhood they sang together in taverns and tablaos of the Bay of Cadiz, as the "Venta de Vargas" in San Fernando. Chano Lobato
Chano Lobato (December 1927 in Cadiz – 5 April 2009 in Seville) was a Spanish flamenco singer. Born in the Santa María neighborhood of Cadiz, he began performing at nightclubs in his hometown and later moved to Madrid, where he joined Alejandro Vega's Flamenco dance group. He became well known for performing with Antonio El Bailarín in particular, but also Manuel Morao and El Serna and for various notable dancers, including Matilde Coral. In 1974 Lobato received the Enrique El Mellizo award at the national contest Concurso Nacional de Córdoba and in 1996 he received the Medalla de Andalucía (Medal of Andalusia). Chano Lobato made many recordings. Ketama
Ketama is a Spanish musical group in the new flamenco tradition. Fusing flamenco with other musical forms (salsa, Brazilian music, reggae, funk, jazz), they created a style that lies somewhere between flamenco and pop salsa. Their music drew as much criticism as praise because purists did not like the change from traditional flamenco, but the group won over the young public. They continued to fuse other music in, and their 2002 album, ''Dame la Mano'', added hip hop and house music. History Band formation Ketama formed in Madrid in the early eighties, taking its name from a well-known valley in Morocco. The initial line-up featured José Soto Sorderita (guitar), Juan Carmona (guitar) and Ray Heredia (vocals). Each of the three came from flamenco dynasties: the Heredias of Madrid, the Habichuelas of Granada and the Carmonas of Jerez.
