Juan González Gómez
Juan González Gómez "Obijuan" (née Juan González Gómez, born January 18, 1973, in Madrid, Spain) is a doctor in computer science and telecommunications publicly recognized for having become the first Spanish winner of the O'Reilly Open Source Award. Juan is one of the pioneers of open source educational robotics in Spain. Inspired in the RepRap community created by Adrian Bowyer in 2004, Juan pioneered the diffusion of free 3D printing and is credited with being the founder of the CloneWars community, which brought together up to 4,000 Spanish-speaking members. Juan acquired the eighth RepRap 3D printer of the world (manufactured by Makerbot) and he edited a series of 63 video-tutorials for the Spanish community which comprised the step by step instructions to assembly from scratch a Prusa 2 model and became very popular. A fab lab (''fabrication laboratory'') is a small-scale workshop offering (personal) digital fabrication. A fab lab is typically equipped with an array of flexible computer-controlled tools that cover several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make "almost anything". This includes technology-enabled products generally perceived as limited to mass production. While fab labs have yet to compete with mass production and its associated economies of scale in fabricating widely distributed products, they have already shown the potential to empower individuals to create smart devices for themselves. Adrian Bowyer
Adrian Bowyer is an English engineer and mathematician, formerly an academic at the University of Bath. Born in 1952 in London, Bowyer is the older child of the late Rosemary and John Bowyer; the latter was a writer, painter and one of the founders of Zisman, Bowyer and Partners, consulting engineers. Bowyer was educated at Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis and Imperial College London. In 1977 he joined the Mathematics Department at the University of Bath. Shortly after that he received a doctorate from Imperial College London for research in friction-induced vibration. Whilst working in the Mathematics Department he invented (at the same time as David Watson) the algorithm for computing Voronoi diagrams that bears their names (the Bowyer–Watson algorithm). He then spent twenty-two years as a lecturer then senior lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Bath. The RepRap project started in England in 2005 as a University of Bath initiative to develop a low-cost 3D printer that can print most of its own components, but it is now made up of hundreds of collaborators worldwide.
