João Spadari Adami
João Spadari Adami (Caxias do Sul, January 11, 1897 - Caxias do Sul, December 4, 1972) was a Brazilian historian. Biography João Spadari Adami was the son of Francesco Adami and Selene Spadari, Italian immigrants who arrived in Caxias do Sul with their parents when they were still minors. Francesco's parents arrived in the early days of 1877, when their son was six years old, and Selene's in 1891, when she was fifteen. After his marriage, Francesco and his wife settled in the area that would later become the São Pelegrino neighborhood. He worked as a shoemaker and she worked as a washerwoman. They had the following children: João, Alfredo (died young), Alfredo II, Adelaide, Catarina, Clara, Francisca, Ernesto, Santina and Maria. At the age of 9, João was introduced to the tailor's trade, and shortly after to the barber's trade. Caxias Do Sul
Caxias do Sul (), is a city in Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil, situated in the state's mountainous Serra Gaúcha region. It was established by Italian immigrants on June 20, 1890. Today it is the second largest city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In 2020, the population of Caxias do Sul was estimated at 517,451 people, many of whom are of Italian and German descent. The demonym of the citizens of Caxias do Sul is ''Caxiense''. History The history of Caxias do Sul began before the arrival of the Italian immigrants when the region was being roamed by cattlemen and occupied by Indigenous peoples. The region was called "Indians' Field" in that period. The arrival of Italian immigrants, mostly farmers in search of a better life from the Veneto, Lombardy, Trento ( northern Italy) as well as other regions in Italy, began in 1875 in Nova Milano. The João Spadari Adami Municipal Historical Archive (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Arquivo Histórico Municipal João Spadari Adami'') is a cultural institution in Caxias do Sul, Brazil. It has a large collection of documents, photographs, films, recordings, newspapers, and other materials, mostly related to the Italian immigration in Rio Grande do Sul, Italian colonization in the region and to the history of Caxias do Sul, whose value and extent place the institution as an important reference in the state. The Archive was created in 1976 as a department of the Municipal Museum of Caxias do Sul, Municipal Museum, and for many years remained installed in very precarious conditions at the back of the Museum. It soon gathered a large collection and began to perform relevant activities. In 1979, a movement began for the transfer of the Municipal Archive to its own headquarters, which only took place between 1996 and 1997; in 1998 it gained administrative autonomy. The historic b ...
