Joyce Price
Lady Joyce Ethyl Price (8 August 1915 – 19 August 2009) was an Australian philanthropist and a noted leader of the Guide movement in Australia and of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Biography Joyce Price was born in Nuriootpa, South Australia.Obituary, The Age, Melbourne, 22 October 2009. She married Sir Robert Price, the leading organic chemist. Lady Price died in Shoreham, Victoria at the age of 94. Girl Guide movement Lady Price was chairman of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (1975–1981), the only person to serve two terms and the only Australian appointed to that position. As Chairman in 1977, she gave the address at the memorial service in Westminster Abbey for Lady Olave Baden-Powell, the World Chief Guide. Girl Guides Australia
Girl Guides Australia (GGA) is the national Guiding organisation in Australia. Its mission is to empower girls and young women to grow into confident, self-respecting members of the community. Membership is open to all girls and young women from all cultures, faiths and traditions. Guiding groups formed in Australia as early as 1909, and by 1920 Girl Guide Associations had been formed in six states. In 1926 the State Associations federated and formed a national organization which became a founding member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1928. It still operates as a federated structure made up of six state-based Guiding organisations. It has roughly 19,000 members (as of 2021) including adult and youth members. Silver Fish
The Silver Fish Award is the highest adult award in Girlguiding. It is awarded for outstanding service to Girlguiding combined with service to world Guiding. The award has changed greatly since it first appeared in 1911, initially being awarded to girls on completion of a number of badges, then via numerous stages to the highest award in the Guiding movement worldwide, and then on to its position as a Girlguiding award. Award criteria The Silver Fish is not earned, but given to those who are nominated and are considered worthy of the award. Recipients must be members of Girlguiding, have done outstanding service to Guiding in more than one capacity and made a contribution to world Guiding. Beryl Cozens-Hardy
The Hon. Beryl Cozens-Hardy (30 November 1911 – 25 September 2011) was the first British woman to hold the position of chair of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Personal life Beryl Gladys Cozens-Hardy was the elder daughter of Edward Herbert Cozens-Hardy (later the 3rd Baron Cozens-Hardy) and Gladys Cozens-Hardy. She was educated at St James’s School, Malvern, England, whose headmistress was a friend of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, founders of the Girl Guides movement. The family lived at Sefton Park, Liverpool. She moved to Letheringsett Hall in Holt, Norfolk, in the late 1940s, and then to nearby The Glebe in 1965. In 2003 she returned to Letheringsett Hall, where she remained until her death. She was a keen yachtswoman and would frequently sail on the Norfolk Broads, competing in regattas and races.
