It is derived from the Old French masculine name ''Josse'', which derived from the Latin name ''Iudocus'', the Latinized form of the Breton name ''Judoc'' meaning "lord". The Joyce Theater (“The Joyce") is a 472-seat dance performance venue located in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. The building opened in 1941 as the Elgin Theater, a movie house, and was gut-renovated and reconfigured in 1981-82 to reopen as the Joyce Theater. Joyce is a secure programming language for concurrent computing designed by Per Brinch Hansen in the 1980s. It is based on the sequential language Pascal and the principles of communicating sequential processes (CSP). It was created to address the shortcomings of CSP to be applied as a programming language, and to provide a tool, mainly for teaching, for distributed computing system implementation. The language is based around the concept of ''agents''; concurrently executed processes that communicate only by the use of channels and message passing. Agents may activate subagents dynamically and recursively. The development of Joyce formed the foundation of the language SuperPascal, also developed by Hansen around 1993. USS ''Joyce'' (DE-317) was originally commissioned as a US Coast Guard built for the U.S. Navy during World War II. She served in the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean and provided destroyer escort protection against submarine and air attack for Navy vessels and convoys. During its World War II service, on two different engagements with enemy submarines, the ''Joyce'' rescued survivors of the tanker SS Pan- Pennsylvania and its sister ship . ''Joyce'' received one battle star for its service during World War II. Namesake Philip Michael Joyce was born on 23 October 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri. He enlisted in the Navy on 11 July 1940. The Amstrad PCW series is a range of personal computers produced by British company Amstrad from 1985 to 1998, and also sold under licence in Europe as the "Joyce" by the German electronics company Schneider in the early years of the series' life. The PCW, short for ''Personal Computer Word-processor'', was targeted at the wordprocessing and home office markets. When it was launched the cost of a PCW system was under 25% of the cost of almost all IBM-compatible PC systems in the UK, and as a result the machine was very popular both in the UK and in Europe, persuading many technophobes to venture into using computers. Joyces 365 is a family-run supermarket chain based in Headford, Galway, Ireland. The supermarket chain has five stores located in five Galway towns: Headford, Oranmore, Tuam, Inverin and Athenry; as well as the Galway city areas of Knocknacarra, Doughiska, Ballybane and the Claddagh (on Father Griffin Road). J. B. Joyce & Co, clockmakers, were founded in Shropshire in England. The company claim to be the oldest clock manufacturer in the world, originally established in 1690, and have been part of the Smith of Derby Group since 1965. The claim is challenged by another English firm of clockmakers, Thwaites & Reed, who claim to have been in continuous manufacture since before 1740, with antecedents to 1610. Joyce Country
Joyce Country ( ga, Dúiche Sheoighe) is a cultural region in counties Galway and Mayo in Ireland. It is sometimes called Partry, after the former tribal territory of the ''Partraige'', which it largely matches. Part of it falls within the Connacht Gaeltacht. Joyce Country lies on the shores of Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, and includes the Partry Mountains.
