Joyce Craig
Joyce Craig is an American politician serving as the mayor of Manchester, New Hampshire. She is the first female mayor of the city, having been elected in 2017. Biography Early elected career Craig's first political campaign came in 2007, when she was elected to the Manchester School Board. In 2009, she was elected to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, where she represented Ward 1 from January 3, 2010 – January 3, 2016 until her first campaign for mayor in 2015, which she narrowly lost. Craig finished second in the nonpartisan blanket primary, thus advancing to face incumbent Mayor Ted Gatsas in the general election, where she lost in a recount by 64 votes. In 2017, Craig again challenged Gatsas, this time finishing first in the nonpartisan blanket primary and defeating Gatsas in the general election 53% to 46%. Ted Gatsas
Theodore L. Gatsas (born May 22, 1950), known as Ted Gatsas, is an American politician and member of the Republican party who had served as Mayor of Manchester, New Hampshire from 2010 to 2018. He was a member of the New Hampshire Senate, representing the 16th District from 2000 until he resigned in 2009 after being elected mayor. Gatsas was educated at Manchester Central High School. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire at Manchester with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then started Staffing Network, a PEO, with his brother, Michael. Gatsas was elected alderman in the Manchester city council in 1999, and later elected to the New Hampshire Senate in 2000. He became President of the Senate in 2005 by cutting a deal mid-term with the minority Democrats to remove two-term Republican Senate President Tom Eaton. A nonpartisan blanket primary is a primary election in which all candidates for the same elected office run against each other at once, regardless of the political party. Partisan elections are, on the other hand, segregated by political party. Nonpartisan blanket primaries are slightly different from most other elections systems with two-rounds/runoff, aka "jungle primaries" (such as the (Louisiana primary), in a few ways. The first round of a nonpartisan blanket primary is officially the " primary." Round two is the "general election."
