Journal Of Child Language
The ''Journal of Child Language'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering all aspects of the scientific study of language behavior in children, the principles which underlie it, and the theories which may account for it. This includes various aspects of linguistics such as phonology, phonetics, morphology (linguistics), morphology, syntax, vocabulary, semantics, pragmatics, and sociolinguistics. Its editor-in-chief is Heike Behrens (University of Basel). It was established in 1974 with David Crystal (Bangor University) as its founding editor. The journal is published by Cambridge University Press and is the official journal of the International Association for the Study of Child Language. International Association For The Study Of Child Language
The International Association for the Study of Child Language (IASCL) is an academic society for first language acquisition researchers. IASCL was founded in 1970 by a group of prominent language acquisition researchers to promote international and interdisciplinary cooperation in the study of child language. Its major activity is the sponsorship of the triennial International Congress for the Study of Child Language, for which it publishes proceedings. It also publishes the ''Child Language Bulletin'' approximately twice a year. At its triennial meeting, IASCL honors a researcher who has made outstanding contributions to the international child language community with the Roger Brown Award. Language Acquisition
Language acquisition is the process by which humans acquire the capacity to perceive and comprehend language (in other words, gain the ability to be aware of language and to understand it), as well as to produce and use words and sentences to communicate. Language acquisition involves structures, rules and representation. The capacity to use language successfully requires one to acquire a range of tools including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and an extensive vocabulary. Language can be vocalized as in speech, or manual as in sign. Human language capacity is represented in the brain. Even though human language capacity is finite, one can say and understand an infinite number of sentences, which is based on a syntactic principle called recursion. Evidence suggests that every individual has three recursive mechanisms that allow sentences to go indeterminately. The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a scientometric index calculated by Clarivate that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal, as indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science. As a journal-level metric, it is frequently used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its field; journals with higher impact factor values are given the status of being more important, or carry more prestige in their respective fields, than those with lower values.
