The ''Journal of Avian Biology'' is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal of ornithology published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Nordic Society Oikos. The editors-in-chief are Thomas Alerstam and Jan-Åke Nilsson. The journal was established in 1970 as ''Ornis Scandinavica'' and appeared quarterly. It obtained its current name in 1994, changed to bimonthly publication in 2004 and continuous monthly publication in 2018. Ornithology is a branch of zoology that concerns the "methodological study and consequent knowledge of birds with all that relates to them." Several aspects of ornithology differ from related disciplines, due partly to the high visibility and the aesthetic appeal of birds.
