José Da Cunha Taborda
José da Cunha Taborda (28 April 1766 - 4 June 1836) was a Portuguese painter and architect. He was born at Fundão, in the diocese of Guarda, in 1766. After studying painting under Joaquim Manuel da Rocha, he went in 1788 to Rome, where he placed himself under the tuition of Antonio Cavallucci, and gained reputation by a picture of "The Summoning of Cincinnatus to the Dictatorship." Fundão () is a city and a municipality in the Castelo Branco District in Portugal. Fundão proper is an old city with 8,369 inhabitants in 2001, situated at the point where the slope of the Gardunha range meets the Cova da Beira plains, 500 metres above sea level. The municipality population in 2021 was 26,509. The area size is 700.20 km². The city of Covilhã is about 20 kilometers to the north by road. The municipality of Fundão is subdivided into 23 civil parishes known as ''freguesias'' in Portuguese. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Guarda ( la, Dioecesis Aegitaniensis) is a diocese located in central eastern Portugal, a suffragan in the Ecclesiastical province of the Latin Patriarchate of Lisbon in southern Portugal. The present episcopal seat is in Guarda Cathedral ( pt, Catedral de Nossa Senhora da Consolação) in the city of Guarda. The diocese also contains the Church of São Luís in Pinhel, once the cathedral of the former diocese of Pinhel, absorbed into the diocese of Guarda in 1881. Antonio Cavallucci (21 August 1752 – 18 November 1795) was an eighteenth-century Italian painter of religious scenes and portraits. Biography Cavallucci was born in Sermoneta in the Lazio. His artistic talents were recognized in an early stage by Francesco Caetani, Duke of Sermoneta in 1738-1810.
