José Vidal (baseball)
José Vidal Nicolás (April 3, 1940 – January 7, 2011), nicknamed "Papito", was a Dominican Major League Baseball outfielder. He was signed by the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent before the 1958 season. He played for the Cleveland Indians (1966–1968) and Seattle Pilots (1969). He also played one season in Japan for the Nishitetsu Lions (1971). During a four-year major league baseball career, Vidal hit .164 with three home runs and 10 runs batted in (RBI) in 88 career games. Vidal was a very good minor league hitter, but a poor fielder. He led his league three times in errors by an outfielder (1959, 1965 and 1966). Playing for the Hobbs Pirates of the Sophomore League in 1960, he hit .342 with 17 home runs and 81 RBI from just 93 games. In 1963, Vidal won the California League Triple Crown while playing for the Single-A Reno Silver Sox. José María Vidal Bravo (6 May 1935 – 1 August 1986) was a Spanish Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder in the mid 20th century. Club career Born in Madrid, Vidal spent nine years of his senior career linked to Real Madrid C.F., Real Madrid, but he was loaned several times during his spell. He only spent four seasons with the first team, winning three La Liga championships and one Copa del Rey, Copa del Generalísimo; additionally, in the 1959–60 European Cup, 1959–60 edition of the UEFA Champions League, European Cup, he contributed with six games and one goal as the tournament ended in conquest. Vidal amassed Spanish top flight totals of 117 matches and four goals, also representing in the competition CD Málaga and Levante UD. Juan Jose "Cheche" Vidal Noya is a retired Venezuelan association football defender who was a member of the Venezuelan Olympic soccer team at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He was the 1979 Venezuela Footballer of the Year and was the World Cup USA Vice President in charge of technology at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. College Vidal attended Boston University, where he played on the men's soccer team from 1981 to 1983. Vidal was a 1981 Third-Team All-American, but lost the 1982 season to a knee injury. He came back in 1983 and was selected as a First-Team All-American. In 1984, he graduated with a master's degree in mechanical engineering and sports applied technology. Don José Vidal (March 12, 1763, in A Coruña, Spain – August 22, 1823, in New Orleans, Louisiana) was a Spanish grandee who served in many different roles during the last decade of Louisiana's colonial period. Biography Early life Don José Vidal was born on March 12, 1765, in A Coruña, Spain. Career He was secretary to Manuel Gayoso de Lemos, the Spanish Governor of the Natchez District from 1792-1797. He preferred to remain on Spanish territory, and petitioned the Spanish Governor-General Manuel Gayoso de Lemos for a land grant across the Mississippi River from Natchez. Gayoso granted the petition, with the stipulation that Vidal erect a “strong house” (fort) on the property. In 1798 Don Jose moved his family from Natchez across the river and became the Commandant of the new Post of Concordia.
