José Tomás Sánchez (March 17, 1920 – March 9, 2012) was a Filipino cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who held several posts in the Roman Curia, the highest of which was Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy from 1991 to 1996. Prior to his appointment to the Roman Curia, he held several diocesan bishop positions in the Philippines, the last of which was Archbishop of Nueva Segovia from 1982 to 1986. He was ordained a priest on May 12, 1946. He was consecrated bishop on May 12, 1968, following his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Nueva Cáceres, and was elevated to cardinal on June 28, 1991, by Pope John Paul II. José de la Cruz Sánchez (November 8, 1799 – 1878) was a Californio statesman and ranchero who served as the eleventh Alcalde of San Francisco. Life José de la Cruz Sánchez was born November 8, 1799, in Santa Clara, California. He was the eldest son of Ana Josefa Soto and José Antonio Sánchez (1773–1843), a land grantee of Rancho Buri Buri (also called Sánchez Rancho) in present-day San Mateo County. José Luis ''Garrafa'' Sánchez (May 26, 1974 – January 8, 2006) was an Argentine football midfielder. He played mostly for Deportivo Laferrere and Banfield, and is considered an idol for both of these clubs' fans. His nickname, ''garrafa'', means gas cylinder in Spanish. Career Sánchez started his career in 1993 (aged 19) playing for Laferrere against Almirante Brown in the Primera B Nacional (Argentine second division). He played as a left back, despite being regularly an attacking midfielder for the rest of his career. He scored his first professional goal against Colón in a 1–6 defeat. Sánchez could not help Laferrere avoid relegation and played one season with the team at the lower Primera B Metropolitana. For the 1997-98 season he was transferred to El Porvenir, where he helped the team gain promotion to the Primera B Nacional. José Antonio Sánchez is a paralympic athlete from Spain competing mainly in category T11 800m events. Biography Antonio competed in three Paralympics, winning a total of seven medals including four golds. His first games were his home games in 1992 in Barcelona where he won a bronze medal in the 1500m; a silver in the 800m in which Poland's Waldemar Kikolsji broke the games record; the 400m winning a second silver; and the 4 × 400 m relay, winning a gold as part of the world record breaking Spanish team.
