José Rafael Ojeda Durán
José Rafael Ojeda Durán (born 3 February 1954) is the Mexican Secretary of the Navy in the Cabinet of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. He has worked in the Mexican Navy in various positions for 50 years. He is a member of the Mexican Legion of Honor. Biography José Rafael Ojeda Durán was born on 3 February 1954. Joining the Heroica Escuela Naval Militar (where he later served as a professor) in 1969, he later graduated as a Guardiamarina (Midshipman) in 1974. In the time after his graduation, he served in the Navy for 50 years on a variety of vessels, commands, and assorted offices. Among these: he led the Eighth Naval Region, Fourteenth Naval Region, Sixth Flotilla, Pacific Naval Force, Chief of Naval Operations, and was a Senior Naval Admiral. Xalapa, Veracruz
Xalapa or Jalapa (, ), officially Xalapa-Enríquez (), is the capital city of the Mexico, Mexican States of Mexico, state of Veracruz and the name of the surrounding municipality. The modern Mexican Legion of Honor (Spanish: ''Legión de Honor Mexicana'') is an order of merit awarded to soldiers, veterans, and others who have made outstanding contributions to the national defense, security, or sovereignty of Mexico. Tropical Storm Hernan (2020)
Tropical Storm Hernan was a small and disorganized tropical cyclone that brought widespread flooding and destructive mudslides to several states in southwest Mexico in late August 2020. Hernan was the thirteenth tropical cyclone and eighth named storm of the 2020 Pacific hurricane season. A tropical storm formed from a low-pressure area that was located southwest of Mexico on August 26. Moving generally northward and paralleling the west coast of Mexico, the system was hindered by a high wind shear environment and barely strengthened. The cyclone achieved peak intensity around 6:00 UTC on August 27 with 45 mph (75 km/h) winds and a minimum barometric pressure of 1001 millibars (29.56 inHg). Passing just offshore the state of Jalisco, Hernan turned west and degenerated to a remnant low on August 28. Iguala Mass Kidnapping
On September 26, 2014, forty-three male students disappeared from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College after being forcibly abducted in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico. They were allegedly taken into custody by local police officers from Iguala and Cocula in collusion with organized crime. The mass kidnapping has caused continued international protests and social unrest, leading to the resignation of Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre Rivero in the face of statewide protests on October 23, 2014. Guardiamarina
In France, under the Ancien Régime, the Gardes de la Marine (Guards of the Navy), or Gardes-Marine were young gentlemen undergoing training to be naval officers. The training program was established by Cardinal Richelieu in 1670 and lasted until Admiral de Castries abolished it in 1786. The Gardes-Marine received a brevet commission from the King and were organized into companies, established at the harbors of Brest, Toulon, and Rochefort. All naval officers were drawn from these companies, which were the equivalent of the current naval school.
