José Luis Cruz Cruz (born September 3, 1959) is a Puerto Rican people, Puerto Rican politician and former mayor of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Trujillo Alto. Cruz is affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party of Puerto Rico, Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and has served as mayor since 2009. Early years and studies José Luis Cruz Cruz was born on September 3, 1959. He is the oldest son of Luis Benjamín Cruz Hernández and Aurea Cruz Betancourt. His grandfather, Luis Cruz Hernández, was mayor of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Trujillo Alto from 1941 to 1945. Cruz received his high school diploma from Colegio Santa Cruz in Trujillo Alto. Trujillo Alto (, ) is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the Northern Coastal Plain, on the boundary between the karst zone and Sierra de Luquillo, north of Caguas, and Gurabo; southeast of San Juan, and west of Carolina. The 2008 Puerto Rican general elections were held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 to elect the officials of the Government of Puerto Rico that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. The election was won by incumbent Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico Luis Fortuño (from the New Progressive Party), who defeated the incumbent Governor, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá (from the Popular Democratic Party). Fortuño received 1,025,965 votes, and Acevedo Vilá 801,071. Also, most of the other positions were won by the candidates of the New Progressive Party, who ended up with a majority of seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
