José Hawilla
José Hawilla (11 July 1943 – 25 May 2018) was a Brazilian businessman, the owner and founder of Traffic Group, a multinational sports marketing conglomerate. Hawilla was born in São José do Rio Preto to parents of Lebanese origin, in the state of São Paulo, and began his career as a sports journalist. In 1980, Hawilla founded the Traffic Group, Brazil’s largest sports marketing company. He died in a São Paulo hospital on 25 May 2018 at the age of 74 of respiratory failure. He had been ill with pulmonary hypertension, fibrosis, emphysema and throat cancer. 2015 FIFA corruption case Hawilla pleaded guilty on 12 December 2014 to "corruption charges including racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering", in connection with what has become the 2015 FIFA corruption case. São José do Rio Preto () is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The city is located at the northwest portion of the state, 440 km (273 mi) from the city of São Paulo and 700 km (435 mi) from Brasília. As of the 2021 census, the population of the city was 469,173 inhabitants making it the 11th largest city in the state of São Paulo and the 36th largest city in Brazil. 2015 FIFA Corruption Case
In 2015, United States federal prosecutors disclosed cases of corruption by officials and associates connected with the Fédération internationale de Football Association ( FIFA), the governing body of association football, futsal and beach soccer. Near the end of May 2015, fourteen people were indicted in connection with an investigation by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division (IRS-CI) into wire fraud, racketeering, and money laundering. The United States Attorney General simultaneously announced the unsealing of the indictments and the prior guilty pleas by four football executives and two corporations.
