Josif Jovanović Šakabenta
Josif Jovanović Šakabenta ( Irig, Habsburg monarchy, 1743 – Vršac, Habsburg Monarchy, 31 December 1805) was the bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the throne of Sremski Karlovci and Vršac. He was Zaharije Orfelin's friend and patron. Life Josif Jovanović Šakabenta was born in 1743 in Irig to reverend father Andrija Jovanović, the younger brother of Patriarch Arsenije IV Jovanović Šakabenta and Peško Jovanović Šakabenta. Priest Andrija died in 1759. The brothers, Arsenije, Andrija, and Peško and their family members, were granted Hungarian nobility on 11 September 1746. Josif was ordained a presbyter and later elevated once again in 1774 by the Metropolitan Vićentije Jovanović Vidak to archimandrite. On 31 July 1781, Metropolitan Mojsije Putnik consecrated him to the Bishop of Pakrac-Slavonian and the entire Generality of Varaždin. Irig, Serbia
Irig (, ; hu, Ürög) is a town and municipality located in the Srem District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The town has a population of 4,415, while Irig municipality has 10,866 inhabitants. Name In Serbian, the town is known as ''Irig'' (Ириг), in Croatian as ''Irig'', in Hungarian as ''Ireg'' or ''Ürög'', in German as ''Irick'', in Slovak as ''Irig'', and in Rusyn as Ириґ. History Irig was first mentioned in the historical documents in 1225. In the 15th century, the masters of the town were Serbian despots Vuk Grgurević, Đorđe Branković, and Jovan Branković. During the 15th and 16th century, ten Orthodox monasteries were built in the surrounding of Irig (Two of those were located just near the town). The Varaždin Generalate (german: Warasdiner Generalat, hr, Varaždinski generalat), also known as the ''Windische Grenze'' ("Wendian/Wendish lavicBorder") in German, was a Habsburg monarchy Military Frontier province centred in Warasdin (Varaždin), Kingdom of Croatia within Habsburg Monarchy, that existed between 1531 and the 19th century. The border command was established by Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor in 1531. By the 1560s the Habsburgs established a frontier defense system, made up of six main ''Grenzgeneralat'' (captain-generalcies) in the Military Frontier in Hungary and Croatia, each commanded by captain generals; the one centred in Varaždin was after 1578 known as the Wendish-Bajcsavár captain-generalcy.
