Joshua A. Sanchez
Joshua Adolph Sanchez (born 1981) is an American businessman and politician serving as a member of the New Mexico Senate from the 30th district. Elected in 2020, he assumed office on January 19, 2021. Early life and education Sanchez was born in Belen, New Mexico in 1981. He graduated from Belen High School, where he competed on the wrestling team. He also worked on his family's farm. Career After graduating from high school, Sanchez worked in the construction industry before establishing his own business. For 15 years, Sanchez was also an employee of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. In the 2020 Democratic primary, incumbent Senator Clemente Sanchez (politician), Clemente Sanchez was defeated by Pamela Cordova. Sanchez defeated Cordova in the November general election. Clemente Sanchez (born June 24, 1958) is an American politician and businessman who served as a member of the New Mexico Senate for the 30th district from January 15, 2013 to 2021. Clemente is the CEO and president of the Bank of New Mexico, a subsidiary of Triumph Bancorp. Early life and education Sanchez was born in Cubero, New Mexico. He earned his BBA in accounting from Eastern New Mexico University and his MBA from New Mexico Highlands University. Career In 1991, Sanchez became director of the New Mexico State University Grants Small Business Development Center. In May 2007, Sanchez began working at the Bank of New Mexico as chief executive. In September 2015, it was announced that Sanchez would become CEO of the bank. As part of taking the position, he announced that he would be retiring as director of the New Mexico State University-Grants Small Business Development Center. Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District
The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) was formed in 1925 to manage the irrigation systems and control floods in the Albuquerque Basin. It is responsible for the stretch of river from the Cochiti Dam in Sandoval County in the north, through Bernalillo County, Valencia County and Socorro County to the Elephant Butte Reservoir in the south. It manages the Angostura, Isleta and San Acacia diversion dams, which feed an extensive network of irrigation canals and ditches. Background The Pueblo people of the Rio Grande valley had developed primitive irrigation systems in the Rio Grande valley by the 10th century AD. These systems used a main ''acequia'' (shared irrigation ditch) into which water was diverted from the river, with secondary ditches leading off the main channel named for specific families.
