Josh Pauls
Joshua Pauls (born December 31, 1992) is an ice sled hockey player from USA and Member of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. He took part in the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, where USA won gold. They beat Japan 2–0 in the final. A resident of Green Brook Township, New Jersey, he attended Watchung Hills Regional High School. Born without tibia bones in both legs and had both amputated at the age of 10 months old. Competed with the St. Louis Blues sled hockey club team at the 2011 USA Hockey Sled Classic, presented by the NHL. Member of the New York Rangers Sled Hockey club team from 2002 to 2008. Hopes to become a professional hockey coach. 2019 World Para Ice Hockey Championships
The 10th edition of World Para Ice Hockey Championships (originally named IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships) was held in 2019. The championships were divided into three tournaments. The main event (Tournament A) was hosted by Ostrava, Czech Republic The first matches were played on April 27 and the championships concluded with the final game played on May 4. It was the second time Ostrava World Para Ice Hockey Championships, as Ostrava hosted the Championships 10 years ago in 2009. The tournament achieved record number of spectators, as their total number reached 65,000. Ice Sled Hockey
Sledge hockey, also known as Sled hockey in American English, and Para ice hockey in international competition, is an adaptation of ice hockey for players who have a physical disability. The sport was invented in the early 1960s at a rehabilitation centre in Stockholm, Sweden, and played under similar rules to standard ice hockey. Players are seated on sleds and use special hockey sticks with metal "teeth" on the tips of their handles to navigate the ice. Playing venues use an ice hockey rink. While sledge hockey is a part of the Winter Paralympics programme, it only includes a category for men which doubles as a mixed-sex division, allowing only a limited number of female athletes to participate. The 2017 World Para Ice Hockey Championships for A-Pool teams (Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, United States) was held in Gangneung, South Korea, from 11 April through 20 April 2017. The opening ceremony was held on 11 April and games were played from 12 April through 20 April, followed by the closing ceremony.
