Josh Hagerty
Joshua Hagerty (born July 27, 1998) is a professional Canadian football defensive back for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). University career Hagerty played U Sports football for the Saskatchewan Huskies from 2016 to 2020, while taking a redshirt year in 2016. He played in 26 regular season games where he had 72 tackles, four interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Hagerty was a member of the 2018 Hardy Cup champion Huskies where he intercepted Adam Sinagra on the Calgary Dinos' first offensive play. He did not play in 2020 due to the cancellation of the 2020 U Sports football season and remained draft-eligible for the Canadian Football League in 2021. Professional career Hagerty was drafted in the sixth round, 47th overall, in the 2021 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts and signed with the team on May 13, 2021. In gridiron football, defensive backs (DBs), also called the secondary, are the players on the defensive side of the ball who play farthest back from the line of scrimmage. They are distinguished from the other two sets of defensive players, the defensive linemen who play directly on the line of scrimmage, and the linebackers, who play in the middle of the defense, between the defensive line and the defensive backs. 2020 U Sports Football Season
The 2020 U Sports football season was scheduled to feature Canadian football competition under the auspices of U Sports as the highest level of competition for amateur football in Canada in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada, U Sports cancelled the national championships and the Atlantic University Sport, Canada West, and Ontario University Athletics conferences announced the complete cancellation of their schedules on June 8. The Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec conference waited to make a decision until September 14, when they also announced that all university sports would be cancelled for the remainder of 2020. The Vanier Cup (french: Coupe Vanier) is the championship of Canadian university football. It is organized by U Sports football and is currently played between the winners of the Uteck Bowl and the Mitchell Bowl. It is named after Georges Vanier, the former governor general of Canada and was first awarded in 1965 to the winner of an invitational event contested between two teams that were selected by a panel. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme.
