Joshua Lionel Cowen
Joshua Lionel Cowen (; August 25, 1877 – September 8, 1965) was an American electrical engineer and inventor. Cowen attended two different colleges but never obtained a degree. He had a mechanical inclination and was interested in the principals of electricity. He worked a lot with batteries, transformers, and electrical motors which led to inventions and innovations. His first patented invention for a photographer's flash igniter for flash photography developed into a detonator for exploding mines for the United States Navy. That resulted in a $12,000 () defense contract which gave him the money to go into the novelty business. He was the co-founder of a manufacturer of model railroads and toy trains called Lionel trains. When he first made the Lionel toy train it was intended to be used as an advertising gimmick to attract people to store windows to sell other products. Yehoshua Cohen
Yehoshua Cohen (Hebrew: יהושע כהן; June 22, 1922 – August 8, 1986) was a leading member of Lehi, a Zionist militant group, who fired the fatal shots in the assassination of United Nations envoy Folke Bernadotte on September 17, 1948. Cohen was never charged for his role in the assassination, and was one of the founders of the Sde Boker kibbutz in the Negev Desert, where David Ben-Gurion later lived. While Ben-Gurion lived at Sde Boker, he and Cohen became close friends. Early life and activity Cohen was born in Petah Tikva in 1922, the son of a farmer.Fetherling (2001), p. 101. Joshua Cohen ( ; born 1951) is an American philosopher specializing in political philosophy. He has taught at Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently a member of the faculty at Apple University and the University of California, Berkeley. Education and career Cohen earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in philosophy from Yale University in 1973, and earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University under the direction of John Rawls in 1979. He taught at MIT from 1979 until 2007, when he moved to Stanford University. Joshua Aaron Cohen (born September 6, 1980) is an American novelist and story writer, best known for his works '' Witz'' (2010), ''Book of Numbers'' (2015), and ''Moving Kings'' (2017). Cohen is the recipient of the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, for his novel '' The Netanyahus'' (2021). Life Cohen grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey, spent his summers in Cape May, New Jersey and went to school at Trocki Hebrew Academy before transferring to Mainland Regional High School. He currently lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn. He reads both German and Hebrew and has translated works in both languages into English. Work and career He attended the Manhattan School of Music and studied composition. Cohen does not have an MFA, and has expressed disdain for the degree. Joshua Cohen (born May 29, 2001) is an American college basketball player for the USC Trojans of the Big Ten Conference. He previously played for the UMass Minutemen of the Atlantic-10 Conference and the Saint Francis Red Flash of the Northeast Conference. High school career Cohen attended Christian Brothers Academy and was coached by Geoff Billett. He averaged 21 points per game as a senior, earning all-conference honors. Cohen finished his career with 1,224 points. He committed to play college basketball at Saint Francis Red Flash. Josh Cohen (born September 17, 1984) is the former coach of the Philadelphia Freedoms of World TeamTennis. Juniors career Cohen was ranked top-ten in the world in juniors, and ranked No. 1 nationally in every USTA age group from the 12’s through the 18’s. He competed in all four Grand Slams, reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open Junior Championships as well as the U.S. Open Round of 16. Cohen finished his juniors career ranked No. 19 in the world. Collegiate career Cohen played collegiate tennis at the University of Miami. Cohen graduated with Dean’s List and All-American honors, becoming the winningest player in program history.
