Josh Bonifay
Joshua Cameron Bonifay (born July 30, 1978) is an American baseball executive and former American professional baseball player and coach. He is the farm director for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball. Early life and playing career Bonifay attended T. C. Roberson High School in Asheville, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW), where he played college baseball for the UNCW Seahawks. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the 24th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball draft. He played Minor League Baseball for eight seasons. After he retired, Bonifay graduated from the UNCW's Cameron School of Business with honors. Post-playing career Bonifay joined the Houston Astros' organization in 2011 as a hitting coach for the Greeneville Astros of the Rookie-level Appalachian League. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). These numbers are shorthand designations useful in baseball scorekeeping and are not necessarily the same as the squad numbers worn on player uniforms. Greeneville Astros
The Greeneville Astros were a Minor League Baseball team that played in the Rookie-level Appalachian League from 2004 to 2017. They represented the town of Greeneville, Tennessee, though Pioneer Park, their home stadium, was located in nearby Tusculum on the campus of Tusculum College. They were named for their Major League Baseball affiliate, the Houston Astros. Over 14 years of competition, the Astros played in 938 regular season games and compiled a 440–498 win–loss record. They qualified for the postseason on four occasions and won the Appalachian League championship in 2004 and 2015. They had a postseason record of 9–8. Cam Bonifay
Cameron Hubert Bonifay (born February 12, 1952) is a former major league baseball executive and scout, best known as general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1993 to 2001. Career Bonifay's father was a minor league general manager for several teams in the farm systems of the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds. His own career in sports began as a football placekicker and third baseman at Georgia Tech in the early 1970s. While at Georgia Tech, Bonifay set and tied many records in football as well as baseball as well as being named an All-American Honorable Mention in baseball. Bonifay was not drafted but signed on as an undrafted free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals and played two years of Minor League Baseball. Bonifay stopped playing after he was plagued with knee problems. Bonifay went back to Georgia Tech and became an assistant coach under Jim Morris beginning in 1985. Midwest League
The Midwest League is a Minor League Baseball league established in 1947 and based in the Midwestern United States. A Class A league for most of its history, the league was promoted to High-A as part of Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The Midwest League began as the Illinois State League (1947–1948) and then became the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League (1949–1955). The Quad Cities River Bandits are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Their home games are played at Modern Woodmen Park (formerly John O'Donnell Stadium) in Davenport, Iowa, one of the Quad Cities.
