Josephine Zinck
Josephine Amalie Zinck née Lund (1829–1919) was a Danish mezzo-soprano singer who performed in concerts at Copenhagen's Musikforeningen from the age of 18 and in operas at the Royal Danish Theatre from 1858. Biography Born in Copenhagen on 19 January 1829, Josephine Amalie Lund was the daughter of Jørgen Andersen Lund (1774-1862) and Ane Christine Rasmussen (ca. 1802-68). In 1861, she married the singing prompter August Zinck (1831–85). Josephine Lund's impressive singing voice was discovered while she was at school when her singing teacher encouraged her to perform on stage. She was later trained under the opera singer Peter Schram and the composer and music teacher Edvard Helsted. In 1851, she began singing in concerts at the Musikforeningen where she was acclaimed for her interpretation of songs from ''Così fan tutte'' and, in 1854, for playing the mother in the first performance of Niels Gade's '' Elverskud''. Étienne Méhul
Étienne Nicolas Méhul (; 16 November 1765 ~ 24 December 1817) was a French composer of the Classical period (music), classical period. He was known as "the most important opera composer in France during the French Revolution, Revolution". He was also the first composer to be called a "Romanticism, Romantic". He is known particularly for his operas, written in keeping with the reforms introduced by Christoph Willibald Gluck and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Life Méhul was born at Givet in Ardennes to Jean-François Méhul, a wine merchant, and his wife Marie-Cécile (née Keuly). His first music lessons came from a blind local organist. When he showed promise, he was sent to study with a German musician and organist, , at the monastery of Lavaldieu, a few miles from Givet. Here Méhul developed his lifelong love of flowers. Assistens Cemetery
Assistens Cemetery ( da, Assistens Kirkegård) is the name of a number of cemeteries in Denmark. The common nominator is, as the first part of the name implies (Latin: ''assistens'' meaning assisting), an assisting cemetery for a town's churches. Already by the end of the 17th century, Danish authorities deemed that the conditions for inner-city cemeteries were becoming increasingly unacceptable. Not only was the space becoming limited but it was also deemed unhygienic to conduct burial in the inner-city. The solution was to erect shared cemeteries in the outskirt of a town, named Assisting Cemetery, primarily in larger towns. The first of these in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, was founded by royal resolution on May 26, 1757, and inaugurated November 6, 1760. Peter Arnold Heise
Peter Heise (11 February 1830 – 12 September 1879) was a Danish composer, best known for the opera ''Drot og Marsk'' (''King and Marshal''). Heise's parents tried to press him into becoming a lawyer, but he scored highly in music at school, so he changed direction. He began writing songs at the age of 19. As a young man he collected several hundred folk songs directly from ordinary people. He used these tunes in ''Tornerose'' (Sleeping Beauty) and ''Bergliot'' (A Danish historical romance). He studied under Niels Wilhelm Gade, who was a major influence on his style. From 1857 to 1865 he was a teacher and organist at Sorø Academy. He did a setting of Hans Christian Andersen's poem ''Jylland mellem tvende Have'' (Jutland between two seas) in 1860. The opera ''Drot og Marsk'' tells the story of the murder of a medieval king, and contains some folk ballads. It shows a Wagnerian influence. Charlotte Bournonville
Charlotte Helene Frederikke Bournonville (1832–1911) was a Danish opera singer and actress. Daughter of the celebrated Danish ballet master, August Bournonville, she first sang in Stockholm in 1857 before joining the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen two years later. She is also remembered for giving singing lessons to the daughters of Christian IX of Denmark, King Christian IX. In appreciation of her services, the king elevated her to the status of Kongelige Kammersangere, Kongelig Kammersanger (Royal Chamber Singer) in 1863. Donizetti
Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti (29 November 1797 – 8 April 1848) was an Italian composer, best known for his almost 70 operas. Along with Gioachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini, he was a leading composer of the '' bel canto'' opera style during the first half of the nineteenth century and a probable influence on other composers such as Giuseppe Verdi. Donizetti was born in Bergamo in Lombardy. At an early age he was taken up by Simon Mayr who enrolled him with a full scholarship in a school which he had set up. There he received detailed musical training.
