Josephine Tomic
Josephine Tomic (born 9 June 1989) is a former Australian track cyclist. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Team Pursuit. Personal Nicknamed Josie, Tomic was born on 9 June 1989 in Subiaco, Western Australia. She attended North Perth Primary School, Como Primary School and Perth College. She started at Murdoch University in 2008 and was enrolled as of 2012, and was pursuing a Bachelor of Primary Education. Cycling Tomic is a road and track cyclist specialising in the team pursuit event. She started road cycling when she was fourteen years old. She represented her country for the first time only a year later in 2004, competing in the Oceania championships. She won 5 national titles in the under 17 category between 2004 and 2005, and added an under 19 title to her palmarès in 2007. She has been coached by Gary Sutton since 2005. Subiaco (known colloquially as Subi) is an inner-Western suburbs (Perth), western suburb of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. UCI Road World Championships
The UCI Road World Championships are the annual world championships for bicycle road racing organized by the (UCI). The UCI Road World Championships consist of events for road race and individual time trial, and a mixed team relay. Australian National Criterium Championships
The Australian National Criterium Championships cover several different categories of Australian road bicycle racing events, normally held annually. The elite event is normally held in the December the preceding year, for example the 2009 championships were held on 14 December 2008, and the 2008 championships were held on 2 December 2007. Occasionally the event will be held in January and under 23 events combined with the elite race. Each year the championships are held in a different location, often incorporated in other annual criterium events. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey featuring green and yellow stripes, which can be worn by the rider at other criterium events in the country to show their status as national champion. The champion's stripes can be combined into a sponsored rider's team kit design for this purpose. The event also includes the Australian National Time Trial Championships since 2002. The Australian Championships were officially known as the Scody Australian Open Road Cycling Championships from 1999 to 2010, taking the name of their main sponsor. This changed to the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships from 2011 but they are more commonly referred to as ''The Nationals''. The under 23 championships were introduced in 2001. Cycling At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Team Pursuit
The women's cycling team pursuit at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held at the London Velopark on 3 and 4 August. The Great Britain team consisting of Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell won the gold medal in world record-breaking time. Including pre-Olympic races and the Olympic final itself, in the six times they had ridden together they had broken the world record in every race. Sarah Hammer, Dotsie Bausch and Jennie Reed of the United States took the silver medal and Canada's Tara Whitten, Gillian Carleton and Jasmin Glaesser won bronze. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear.
