Joseph De Cambis
Joseph, viscomte de CambisFonds Marine, vol.1, p. 29 (20 September 1748 in Entrevaux – 25 October 1825) was a French Navy officer and Rear-Admiral. Career Cambis was born to a noble family in Provence;Arnault, p. 46 his father was the governor of the small town of Entrevaux. He joined the Navy as a ''garde marine'' in Toulon, and rose steadily in rank. In 1776, he served on the ''Pléyade''. He took part in the War of American Independence in the squadron of Count d'Estaing. In the summer of 1791, with the rank of ''Major de vaisseau'', he captained the frigate ''Galathée'', ferrying civilian commissaries to Santo Domingo. In the summer of 1792, with the rank of captain,Fonds Marine, p. 34 he relieved Vice-Admiral de Girardin as chief of the Leeward Antilles station. During the experiditon to Saint-Domingue in 1792, Cambis captained the ''Astrée'', on which he escorted a convoy ferrying ammunitions and troops from Rochefort to Haiti. Entrevaux (; oc, Entrevaus) is a commune (municipality), former episcopal seat (not bishopric in title, that remained the Diocese of Glandèves) and Latin Catholic titular see in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France. French Frigate Surveillante (1778)
''Surveillante'' was an 32-gun frigate of the French Navy. She took part in the Naval operations in the American Revolutionary War, where she became famous for her battle with ; in 1783, she brought the news that the war was over to America. She later took part in the French Revolutionary Wars, and was eventually scuttled during the Expédition d'Irlande after sustaining severe damage in a storm. The wreck was found in 1979 and is now a memorial. Career Early career ''Surveillante'' was laid down in August 1777 in Lorient as the second frigate of the ''Iphigénie'' class, a series of 32-gun frigates carrying 12-pounder guns designed by Léon Guignace. She was launched on 26 March 1778, and commissioned in May. The Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, also known as the Leper Brothers of Jerusalem or simply as Lazarists, was a Catholic military order (monastic society), military order founded by crusaders around 1119 at a leprosy, leper hospital in Jerusalem, Kingdom of Jerusalem, whose care became its original purpose, named after its patron saint, rich man and Lazarus, Lazarus. Order Of Saint Louis
The Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis (french: Ordre Royal et Militaire de Saint-Louis) is a dynastic order of chivalry founded 5 April 1693 by King Louis XIV, named after Saint Louis (King Louis IX of France). It was intended as a reward for exceptional officers, notable as the first decoration that could be granted to non-nobles. By the authorities of the French Republic, it is considered a predecessor of the Legion of Honour, with which it shares the red ribbon (though the Legion of Honour is awarded to military personnel and civilians alike). Although officially abolished by the government authorities of the July Revolution in 1830 following the French Revolution, its activities carried on as a dynastic order of the formerly sovereign royal family. Bernard Thomas Tréhouart de Beaulieu (14 January 1754 – 12 November 1804) was a French businessman, major of Saint-Malo, deputy at the National Convention, and Navy officer. Career Tréhouart-Beaulieu was born Saint-Malo. In early 1793, he and Jean-Jacques Bréard were in a mission on the coasts of Brest and Lorient, and in Brest with Jean Bon Saint-André, Gilbert-Amable Faure-Conac and Prieur de la Marne. He also served as chief of the first division of the Ministry of the Navy. Justin-Bonaventure Morard de Galles (30 March 1741, Goncelin, Isère – 23 July 1809, Guéret) was a French navy officer and admiral. Family Morard was born to a noble family from Dauphiné whose origins stretched right back to the end of the 11th century. His father was an infantry captain, and his elder brother Charles Morard de La Bayette de Galles was a général de Division under the Revolution and the Directory. She later took part in the Expédition d'Irlande, an ill-fated attempt to invade Ireland.
