Joseph Zema
Joseph Zema (born August 10, 1994) is an Australian professional football punter for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). University career Zema played college football for the Incarnate Word Cardinals in 2017 as a graduate transfer from Australian Catholic University. Professional career San Antonio Commanders Following his college career, Zema had tryouts with the National Football League's New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, but was not signed. Instead, he signed with the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football in 2019 where he had 37 punts with a 45.8-yard average. His contract was terminated following the dissolution of the league on April 2, 2019. Punter (football)
A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they throw or run the football instead of punting. Skills and usage The purpose of the punt is to force the team that is receiving the kick to start as far as possible from the kicking team's end zone. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. 2022 Montreal Alouettes Season
The 2022 Montreal Alouettes season was the 55th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 67th overall. The Alouettes finished second in their division, an improvement on their third place finish in 2021 and qualified for the playoffs for the third consecutive season following the team's week 19 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks. However, after defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Semi-Final, the team lost to the Toronto Argonauts in the East Final. The Alouettes held their training camp in Trois-Rivières at Stade Diablos. The 2022 CFL season was the third season for Khari Jones as the team's head coach and offensive coordinator. 2021 CFL Global Draft
The 2021 CFL Global Draft took place on April 15, 2021 and was the first CFL Draft that pooled all of the global players together after previously having separate drafts for Mexican players and European players in 2019. 36 players were chosen from among eligible players following a virtual CFL Combine. The order of the draft was determined by random lottery, similar to the system used for the 2021 CFL Draft. As a snake draft, each odd round was in the opposite order of each even round. Background The Canadian Football League introduced global players for the 2019 CFL season through the LFA and European drafts where each team was required to have one of these player on the active roster and up to two on the practice roster.
